Description:
AltaMed offers mentoring services for youth as a supplement to educational and occupational skills training available through our existing Workforce Development program. Technology skills training, career exploration, and leadership development are all benefits for the thousands who have formally gone through our Workforce Development program.
Workforce Development coordinates of all of AltaMed’s internships, including AmeriCorps and clinical placement. More broadly, though, it exists to promote the sustainable growth of AltaMed’s workforce, one day seeking to supply 10-20 percent of our employees, and aims to ensure that AltaMed is hiring from within the communities we serve with greater retention in mind.
Job Overview
OVERVIEW
The Quality department is focused on utilizing quality improvement efforts to increase the number of patients who receive the care they need and reduce health disparities. These efforts are completed through analyzing reports and data to show how AltaMed is caring for our patients and ensure we are fulfilling our mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The project intern will support in the following:
- Help increase colorectal cancer screening in our communities by providing outreach to unscreened patients.
- Inform patients of the different colorectal cancer screening options available and step-by-step instructions on each.
- Provide culturally competent, patient-centered health education and navigation.
- Use motivational interviewing skills to encourage colorectal cancer screening.
- Utilize the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system to enter and track patient information.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will:
- Have bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (required)
- Have experience in patient education and/or in a healthcare setting
- Be familiar with social determinants of health
- Be committed to health equity
- Bachelor’s degree or MA degree preferred
- Be available to intern 29 hours per week
- Have reliable transportation as this role is hybrid
