Job Description

  • POSITION STANDARDS
      • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) with 3 years of experience preferred.
      • Good clerical (including computer skills), organizational, basic mathematical and reading skills.
      • Ability to flexibly work in a fast paced environment with accuracy.
      • Ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
      • Ability to maintain composure under stressful situations.
      • Licensed as Pharmacy Technician by the State of New Hampshire.
      • Age of Patients Treated: Patients of all ages.
      • Current BCLS certification required within 30 days of hire.

  • PART TWO: FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
    • Position Objective
      • Assists pharmacists with drug distribution and control tasks. Assists pharmacists to comply with regulatory and accrediting agency standards. Assists in performing clerical functions as necessary.
    • Performance Expectation
      • Functions and performs duties under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
      • Performs the operational activities in the pharmacy including receiving orders, drug distribution, ordering and returns.
      • Monitors pharmacy and automated dispensing cabinet inventories and assists with drug distribution
        • delivers medications and supplies to hospital areas
        • loads, unloads, refills automated drug distribution cabinets.
        • monitors inventory levels and initiates ordering so as to maintain adequate drug inventory levels and avoid out of stock situations
        • assures medications are stored appropriately and temperatures are monitored
        • monitors drug expiration dating and removes/replaces any outdated or unusable medications for processing through waste stream or reverse distributor
      • Orders medications and supplies from wholesaler and through Dartmouth-Hitchcock System resources and manufacturers through use of purchase orders for pharmacy and APD clinics.
      • Receives and unpacks orders, verifies items received against packing slips and/or invoices, places items into stock and contacts vendors for invoicing/supply problems.
      • Maintains files of pharmacy drug records.
      • Maintains clean and orderly drug preparation/dispensing/storage areas.
      • Inspects pharmacy and medication areas for outdated medications, etc. as per departmental inspection standards.
      • Prepares/compounds/admixes/packages sterile (USP 797) and non-sterile (USP 795) drug products and unit dose medications.
      • Assists in maintaining automated drug distribution system, including:
        • assigning or adjusting drug min/max levels
        • printing, reviewing or acting upon reports or alerts
        • troubleshooting system or equipment problems
        • other system maintenance tasks that may arise
      • Assists in quality control and project development, planning and implementation as requested or assigned.
      • Assists in the review, development and revisions of policies and procedures.

      • Assist with orientation and training of pharmacy department staff.
      • Contributes to the short and long term departmental planning and strategy.
      • Performs other duties as assigned by Pharmacist or Pharmacy Manager.
