Job Description

Position Title: Collins Foundry Monitor - MassArt

Location: Boston, MA Category: Temporary Job Type: Part-time Posted On: Thu Sep 10 2026 Job Description:

Oversees metal shop, understands and enforces safety protocols.


Serve as a foundry specific resource, including but not limited to: wax / spruing help,
sand mold / gating help, dipping ceramic shell, chip out / sandblasting, metal finishing,
patina, etc. Other problem solving as it arises. Check in with the Associate Professor to set time) once /
week to assess what needs attention based on the following:


Key responsibilities:
Supervise ceramic shell system (with Marjee and the foundry TAs)

  • Supervise mixing slurry
  • Coordinate with the TAs and Iron Corps for mixing crew
  • Set viscosity check schedule (and employ it)
  • Maintain stucco bins - quantity of sand and encourage students to riddle
  • Be a contact person if something looks wrong / tank seizes up
  • Inventory and stock materials
  • Help keep wax room clean and organized
  • Encourage students to scrape tables after use
  • Encourage proper storage of projects (on shelves / in studios / lockers)
  • Recycle wax

Metal shop / foundry supervision + safety

  • Be available for metal working help outside of class
  • Keep die grinders (and wrenches) organized
  • Inventory abrasives so we can order and re-stock
  • Maintain stock of carbide burrs and lend out for use


Job Requirements:

Hourly Rate:$20.00 an hour

Working Hours: 10 hours per week

  • Knolwedge of shop safety and tools/machinery
