This role offers the opportunity to lead and expand transmission line engineering expertise across high-voltage infrastructure projects.
You will contribute to the design of transmission lines ranging from 69kV to 500kV, supporting projects from early planning through construction.
The position covers technical design, routing, conductor selection, grounding, shielding, cost analysis, and engineering documentation.
You will collaborate with clients, vendors, construction teams, and multidisciplinary project groups to deliver reliable engineering solutions.
The role also includes directing a small project team and mentoring less experienced engineers and technical staff.
With a diverse project portfolio, you will have opportunities to contribute to proposals, estimates, site visits, and client meetings.
This is a collaborative engineering environment that values technical excellence, professional judgment, innovation, and responsible use of emerging technologies.

Accountabilities
  • Design and support transmission line projects across the 69kV to 500kV range, applying sound engineering principles and applicable codes and standards.

  • Develop design criteria, routing and siting strategies, cost analyses, and technical solutions for transmission infrastructure.

  • Perform or support conductor selection, shielding, grounding, and induction studies.

  • Review transmission line models and engineering deliverables, including right-of-way requirements, conductor sags and tensions, plan and profile drawings, and construction documentation.

  • Work with vendors and clients to define and specify transmission line components and materials.

  • Prepare technical plans, drawings, models, engineering calculations, specifications, and supporting documentation.

  • Coordinate project schedules and budgets while contributing to successful delivery across diverse transmission assignments.

  • Direct a small project team, collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams, and provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced staff.

  • Liaise with construction and installation teams to support effective implementation of engineering designs.

  • Develop engineering proposals, scopes, cost estimates, and other materials supporting new business opportunities.

  • Participate in occasional site visits and client meetings as required.

  • Identify appropriate opportunities to use technology, automation, data, AI, and other digital tools to improve engineering workflows and outcomes while applying professional judgment and review.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board-accredited undergraduate program or a U.S.-based ABET-accredited program.

  • At least 5 years of experience contributing to project teams and delivering diverse transmission engineering assignments within schedule and budget constraints.

  • Demonstrated experience with transmission line design, including applicable code requirements, cost estimating, scheduling, procurement specifications, construction documentation, and coordination with construction and installation teams.

  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD sufficient to review transmission line models.

  • Knowledge of right-of-way requirements, conductor sag and tension, transmission line plan and profile drawings, and construction documents.

  • Strong understanding of engineering design techniques, tools, and principles used to produce technical plans, drawings, and models.

  • Experience preparing engineering calculations and supporting technical documentation.

  • Familiarity with relevant design codes and standards, including NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients and project teams.

  • A current P.Eng. license, or the ability to obtain one within one year, is valued.

  • Experience developing engineering proposals, cost estimates, and project schedules is an asset.

  • Additional software experience with PLS-TOWER, SAG10, LPILE, MFAD, ArcGIS, CDEGS, AutoCAD, or MicroStation is considered an asset.

  • Candidates must already have authorization to work in Canada, as work authorization sponsorship is not provided for this position.

  • Potential eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.

  • Remote work opportunity within Canada.

  • Opportunities to work on diverse transmission and grid infrastructure projects.

  • Mentorship and collaboration with experienced engineering professionals.

  • Opportunities for professional growth, technical development, and exposure to emerging technologies.

  • Accommodation available upon request for candidates participating in all stages of the selection process.
