Description:
A caregiver in a mental and behavioral health setting provides direct support to individuals experiencing conditions such as depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia. The role focuses on ensuring safety, promoting independence, and supporting treatment plans under supervision of clinical staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist residents with daily living activities (bathing, dressing, grooming, eating)
- Monitor behavior, mood changes, and overall mental state
- Provide emotional support and de-escalate stressful situations
- Follow individualized care plans created by therapists or nurses
- Administer or remind clients to take medications (per policy)
- Maintain a safe and structured environment
- Document client progress and report concerns to medical staff
- Support participation in therapy sessions and group activities
- Handle crisis situations calmly
Monday-Friday 6am-230pm
Monday-Friday 2pm-1030pm
Wednesday-Friday 2pm-1030pm, Saturday 6am-630pm
Thursday-Friday2pm-1030pm, Saturday, Sunday 6am-630pm
Requirements:Required Skills & Qualities
- Strong communication and active listening skills
- Patience and emotional resilience
- Ability to stay calm under pressure
- Basic understanding of mental health conditions
- Observation and problem-solving skills
- Compassion with professional boundaries
Education & Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Background check
- Experience in caregiving or healthcare preferred
- Additional certifications (CNA, HCA, NAR prior to Jan 2012)
