The Glove House Nurse is a position that is responsible for partnering with the Program Managers and Director of Programs for the oversight of the health and wellness care of youth in the programs. Knowledge of childhood trauma and the impacts upon youth’s physical, spiritual, emotional, mental, and vocational health is paramount. Knowledge of standard nursing care, protocols, health and physical safety, documentation, etc. is also required. The ability to forge positive relationships with youth and staff, internal and external customers at all levels, is crucial to success in this position. The Nurse works closely with the Program Managers, Directors and teams in the design and facilitation of the program milieu and service delivery system, quality assurance measurements and agency goals. This individual is directly accountable to the Program Manager and is clinically supervised by the Psychiatric Nurse Practioner.

Primary Job Functions

Provides the overall oversight to assigned departmental support area; provide direct supervision to staff in assigned departmental area in accordance with all Glove House, state, and regulatory requirements.

  • Assures that all processes within the Department operate in compliance with applicable NYS codes, rules, and regulations and with Glove House policies and procedures.
  • Assesses, treats, cares for, follows-up on and provides documentation for the healthcare needs of youth in care within the scope of practice for a Nurse in the state of New York.
  • Assures the coordination of initial, follow-up and periodic healthcare assessments of youth as required by the agency and governing bodies’ policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Completes and documents the comprehensive initial nursing assessment within 24 hours of placements, including need for medical, dental, psychiatric, developmental.
  • Transcribes, interprets, initiates, and directs care ordered by healthcare providers (received via prescription, fax, in person, telephone, etc.) within the guidelines of agency policies and procedures or practices.
  • Communicates all high-profile healthcare concerns to the Program Manager/Director.
  • Participates as the healthcare representative for each assigned youth’s treatment team providing education and resource information for all diagnoses.
  • Participates in the development of all program policy and procedures to ensure that operations are in conformance with appropriate regulations and standards.
  • Monitors the effects and possible side effects of all psychotropic medications administered to youth, and oversees that medications are taken by youth as prescribed through collection and review of monthly medication logs.
  • Assures all documentation is completed in a timely fashion.
  • Available for on-call responsibilities as assigned, including on-site assessments as needed.
  • Reviews and accurately documents all healthcare related events in a timely manner in multiple electronic medical records used by the agency (Connections and myEvolv)
  • Oversees or maintains all healthcare records such as psychiatric files, nursing files, healthcare portion of youth’s file, etc.
  • Performs monthly inspections related to medication records, maintenance of healthcare records, and documentation of healthcare appointments as described per policy.
  • Maintain documentation of all after visit summaries following appointments with medical providers. Additionally, ensuring any follow up from the these are completed, such as referrals or medication changes.
  • Procures or directs the procurement of healthcare supplies.
  • Coordinates healthcare services for youth between the primary care provider and specialty care providers as necessary.
  • Participate in all Glove House strategic planning goals, including risk management and Quality Assurance plans.

Schedule Expectations

This position will have cases in the southern tier area, livingston county and Seneca county. The incumbent will work an evolving scheduled week; however, these will be determined based upon the needs of the program. (During the normal school year, the schedule will likely include late afternoon and evening hours. Summertime hours may be more standard hours.) This position requires flexible scheduling and may include weekends, evenings, and holidays. The ability to work flexible hours is required, as is the ability to provide on-call support, including on-site assessment when scheduled or to meet business needs. Travel will be as needed to conduct Glove House business-related activities. A company car will be provided along with a company gas card. Generally, duties of this position require at least 80% time at work/face-to-face time with co-workers, supervisor and to provide supervision to those you supervise. Up to 20% may be approved to work from home.

Requirements:

NYS Registered Nursing License

Must have a valid driver’s license and driving record in accordance with agency standards.

3+ years’ experience working in as a Nurse, experience working with youth and families is preferred.

Experience working as part of a team preferred.
