Wellness Coordinator – Interim Housing Communities
Position SummaryThe Wellness Coordinator (WC) within SVdP’s Interim Housing Communities is responsible for developing, coordinating, and enhancing wellness programming that promotes physical, mental, and emotional well-being for residents. This role brings in volunteers, partners, and programs to create a safe, healing-centered environment that supports recovery from the trauma of homelessness.
The WC oversees day-to-day programmatic events and activities, builds meaningful relationships with residents, and collaborates across departments to enhance the overall resident experience. This position requires a compassionate and patient communicator who is also goal-oriented, organized, and able to connect daily operations to broader program vision. The ideal candidate is creative, resourceful, and enthusiastic, with strong interpersonal skills and a passion for serving vulnerable populations.
The Wellness Coordinator also plays an important role in fostering SVdP’s Culture of Philanthropy and Culture of Invitation, ensuring volunteers, donors, and community partners feel welcomed, valued, and engaged.
- Develop and coordinate wellness programming for residents aligned with resident needs
- Plan and execute events and activities within budget and timelines
- Manages logistics for multiple activities and events (space, materials, scheduling)
- Evaluates activity effectiveness based on participation and feedback
- Recruit, engage, and support volunteers and community partners
- Create visually appealing documents to promote events, communicate to community supporters, and collaborate with marketing department.
- Foster positive relationships with residents
- Collaborate with case management and program operations staff
- Recruits, schedules, and coordinates resident volunteer activities
- Acts as liaison to Volunteer Engagement department
- Communicate effectively across departments to coordinate activities
- Depending on site, may serve as liaison to Companion Animal Program
- Support SVdP Culture of Philanthropy and Invitation
- Attend staff meetings and trainings
- Other duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities Required
- Strong communication (verbal and written), with the ability to interact effectively with residents, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Enthusiastic, energetic, and comfortable interacting with large groups.
- Can work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Related experience working with vulnerable populations in shelter, transitional housing, or a similar environment preferred, providing trauma-informed and strengths-based support.
- Technology proficiency, including navigating the internet, using Microsoft Office Suite, ability to learn and use electronic record keeping systems.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record preferred.
Minimum Hiring Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 1 year experience event/activity planning
- Minimum 6 months of progressive experience in human services role
- Wellness Coordinators located at City of Phoenix funded programs must provide proof of Level One Fingerprint Card before first day of employment.
Physical Requirements
- Able to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift 30+ pounds
Level 1 – (starting $20/hour) General professionalism (Entry/Familiarity)
- Completes all required training within 90 days.
- Demonstrated ability in basic Wellness Coordinator tasks and skills, through completion of Wellness Coordinator Skills Checklist, including but not limited to:
- Develop and coordinate wellness programming for residents aligned with resident needs
- Plan and execute events and activities within budget and timelines
- Manages logistics for multiple activities and events (space, materials, scheduling)
- Recruit, engage, and support volunteers and community partners
- Collaborate with case management and program operations staff
- Recruits, schedules, and coordinates resident volunteer activities
- Communicate effectively across departments to coordinate activities
Level 2 (starting $22/hour): Understanding Culture & Demonstrating Proactivity (Proficiency + Experience)
- 1+ years of experience demonstrating Level 1 Wellness Coordinator skills, current average score of at least 2 on skills checklist.
- Independently coordinates programs and events
- Develops outreach strategies
- Completes at least one professional development activity beyond required trainings, or 10+ hours shadowing with Mission Engagement departments
- Models trauma-informed service delivery and respectful boundaries.
- Supports volunteers and provides meaningful engagement opportunities.
- Consistently has 3-5 activities or events calendared per week.
- Demonstrates understanding of SVdP culture, including “Program Principles”
Level 3 (starting $24/hour): Leadership Readiness (Comfortable helping to train others)
- 1+ years of experience demonstrating Level 2 Wellness Coordinator skills, current average score of at least 2.5 on skills checklist.
- Completed 20+ hours of training or certification in a specialized area approved by manager (e.g. Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner, Modular Education Program for Activity Professionals, wellness coaching, life skills trainer, etc.)
- Consistently has 7+ activities or events calendared per week.
- Oversees multiple programs and events simultaneously
- Recruits, trains, and retains volunteers
- Builds and sustains community and volunteer partnerships
- Provides volunteer engagement training and/or coaching for program staff
- Models and coaches on SVdP culture, including “Program Principles”
