This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Data Displays and Controls (DDC) Architect Engineer based in United States.

This role offers the opportunity to serve as a technical leader within an interdisciplinary aerospace engineering team developing advanced flight display and processing solutions. You will shape system architectures, translate mission and customer needs into robust hardware and software requirements, and guide solutions through design, integration, testing, and sustainment. The position combines systems engineering, model-based systems engineering, flight and mission engineering, and supplier management. You will perform complex technical analyses and trade studies while balancing performance, cost, risk, and system requirements. The role provides significant exposure to customers, senior leadership, technical partners, and cross-functional engineering teams. This is an onsite position in Melbourne, Florida, supporting a classified program and operating on a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead and support the development and integration of piloted aircraft display and processing components throughout the product lifecycle, from design and development through integration, flight-test verification, and sustainment.
  • Develop, analyze, mature, and implement system requirements, translating customer needs into detailed hardware and software specifications and managing interfaces across the system.
  • Apply Model-Based Systems Engineering and digital engineering practices to capture requirements, interfaces, behaviors, structures, and system parameters.
  • Conduct flight and mission engineering activities that connect desired operational capabilities with delivered system performance across the Systems Engineering “V.”
  • Develop functional architectures, perform functional and performance analyses, conduct detailed trade studies, assess operational effectiveness, and evaluate technology readiness and emerging solutions.
  • Design and develop Data Displays and Controls solutions in collaboration with key suppliers and technical partners.
  • Develop system integration and verification plans, monitor progress, perform design assessments and verification checks, and support test execution.
  • Provide technical leadership for strategic suppliers and partners, including statements of work, requirements, design-data reviews, hardware and software acquisition, qualification, acceptance, delivery, and system integration.
  • Identify technical and program risks, develop mitigation strategies, and track actions through closure.
  • Communicate technical findings, recommendations, and program status to customers, senior leaders, management, external partners, and interdisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Lead or support technical discussions with customers and stakeholders while coordinating activities across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Guide engineering activities using systems engineering, MBSE, digital engineering, and Agile design methodologies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university with at least 5 years of related professional or military engineering experience; alternatively, a Master’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience or a Ph.D. with 1+ year of relevant experience.
  • Professional experience designing, developing, and integrating flight deck equipment, including COTS or MIL-COTS hardware functional design and performance analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering practices, including requirements analysis and flow-down, specification derivation, interface control documentation, architecture development, and verification.
  • Experience conducting trade studies, documenting subsystem architectures, analyzing performance, and evaluating Technology Readiness Levels and supplier capabilities.
  • Ability to work with Model-Based Systems Engineering tools such as Cameo or comparable SysML platforms.
  • Experience with military navigation, navigation aids, aircraft navigation instrumentation, mission software interfaces, or related avionics systems is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with avionics such as Flight Management Systems, Primary Flight Displays, Control Display Units, Terrain Awareness and Warning Systems, Crew Alerting Systems, Moving Maps, and Embedded GPS/INS navigation systems is preferred.
  • Experience with CNS/ATM, Performance Based Navigation, or PBN certification is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of relevant aerospace standards and protocols, including RTCA DO-178, DO-254, DO-200, DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, and Ethernet.
  • Experience leading or guiding engineering teams through product definition and implementation, collaborating across large interdisciplinary organizations, and presenting to senior leadership.
  • Experience managing suppliers or subcontractors and familiarity with real-time embedded software development are preferred.
  • Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence is advantageous.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, communicate effectively across technical and organizational levels, and work collaboratively on complex programs.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a final adjudicated Secret security clearance and any required program access; U.S. citizenship is required for positions requiring government clearance.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
  • This position is fully onsite in Melbourne, Florida and does not offer hybrid or remote work.
Benefits
  • Base salary: $98,400–$147,600 per year, with actual compensation determined by factors including experience, education, skills, responsibilities, and market conditions.
