We are currently recruiting for a Head Of Quality And Compliance to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis.

This position will strengthen governance, ensure continued compliance with statutory, regulatory, and certification requirements, and provide independent assurance to senior leadership. The role will reduce organisational risk, protect against regulatory and audit failure, improve consistency of standards across operations, and support client confidence and contract retention. Appointing a Head of Quality and Compliance is therefore a proactive investment to safeguard performance, reputation, and long-term business sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Leadership

  • Set and lead the Quality & Compliance strategy aligned to business and HSQE priorities
  • Be the senior authority on quality, compliance and assurance
  • Advise and challenge senior leaders and the Board

Management Systems & Standards

  • Own and maintain the integrated management system (ISO 9001/14001/45001)
  • Embed practical, user-focused processes across the business
  • Oversee document control, change control and system governance

Regulatory & Legal Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, contractual and client requirements
  • Track legislative/standards changes and manage business impact
  • Lead engagement with certification bodies and external auditors

Audit, Assurance & Governance

  • Run a risk-based internal audit programme
  • Lead external audits, inspections and certification
  • Ensure timely closure of non-conformances and CAPA
  • Provide assurance reporting to senior leadership and governance forums

Risk, Incidents & Non-Conformance

  • Oversee investigations into quality failures and compliance breaches
  • Drive root cause analysis and sustainable corrective actions
  • Analyse trends and systemic risks to prevent recurrence

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Set and track quality/compliance KPIs
  • Produce clear, evidence-based reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Use insights to drive decisions and continuous improvement

Stakeholder & Client Engagement

  • Be the senior contact for quality/compliance with key clients and partners
  • Support bids, tenders and mobilisation (quality/assurance input)
  • Build strong relationships across operational and corporate teams

Leadership & Culture

  • Build capability through training, coaching and awareness
  • Promote a culture of quality, accountability and continuous improvement

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead process improvement and optimisation initiatives
  • Embed quality/compliance in change, growth and transformation

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Senior Quality & Compliance leadership in an HSQE environment
  • Strong ISO knowledge (ISO 9001 essential; ISO 14001/45001 desirable)
  • Regulatory/statutory compliance expertise
  • Track record leading audits, inspections and certification
  • Able to influence senior stakeholders and drive culture change
  • Strong organisation and communication skills; collaborative and relationship-focused

Desirable

  • Experience in regulated/high-risk sectors (e.g., construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, utilities)
  • Lead Auditor qualification
  • Experience with integrated management systems

Qualifications & Experience

Essential qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Quality, Engineering, Environmental, H&S, or Business/Operations
  • ISO 9001 qualification (Lead Auditor or Quality Manager/Practitioner)
  • Compliance/assurance training: internal audit, risk-based frameworks, CAPA

Desirable qualifications

  • Lead Auditor: ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001
  • Professional membership: CQI (CQP), IOSH and/or IEMA
