Job Description
Setnix, a Setna iO company, is an FAA- and EASA-certified repair station delivering high-quality maintenance, repair, and overhaul solutions for the aviation and aerospace industry. Based in Tempe, Arizona, Setnix specializes in APU and Main Engine teardown, inspection, testing, repair, overhaul, and certification of high-demand rotables and aircraft components.
The Grinder – ID/OD is responsible for setting up and operating grinding equipment to grind, repair, and restore precision aircraft and engine components. This position performs internal diameter (ID) and outer diameter (OD) grinding operations in accordance with approved work instructions, technical specifications, blueprints, and required tolerances.
The Grinder supports the repair of APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) and Main Engine components and ensures completed work meets applicable quality, engineering, and customer requirements.
Requirements:- Review operation schedules and work orders to understand daily and weekly production priorities.
- Set up and operate ID/OD grinding machines to grind, repair, and finish aircraft and engine components.
- Perform ID and OD grinding operations in accordance with applicable work instructions, technical specifications, and approved repair data.
- Set up and adjust machines, tooling, and equipment based on the work being performed.
- Perform grinding operations to specified dimensions and tight tolerances.
- Read and interpret work instructions, manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and other technical documentation.
- Understand and apply geometric tolerances, symbols, datums, dimensions, and applicable terminology.
- Measure and inspect workpieces and finished components using precision measuring equipment, including calipers, indicators, micrometers, and other applicable inspection tools.
- Verify dimensions, tolerances, finishes, and other required characteristics throughout the grinding process.
- Complete assigned work orders and accurately update memo notes with applicable repair and processing information.
- Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of grinding machines, including checking and replenishing machine fluids as necessary.
- Maintain machines, tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Communicate with Leads, Inspectors, Quality, and other appropriate personnel regarding repairs, discrepancies, or technical questions.
- Notify the appropriate Lead or Supervisor of machine issues, tooling needs, consumables, or other concerns affecting production.
- Consult with appropriate personnel when clarification of work instructions or repair requirements is needed.
- Follow all established safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Use company computer systems and email to complete documentation and communicate as necessary.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of grinding experience using manual and/or CNC equipment preferred.
- Previous experience with ID/OD grinding equipment.
- Ability to perform grinding operations and consistently hold tight tolerances on a variety of aerospace materials.
- Knowledge of grinding machine settings, tooling, setups, and operating procedures.
- Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment, including calipers, indicators, and micrometers.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, work instructions, manuals, and diagrams.
- Knowledge of geometric tolerances, symbols, datums, dimensions, and terminology.
- Experience repairing or grinding aircraft, turbine engine, APU, or Main Engine components preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced production environment.
- Ability to receive and apply feedback and direction.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Office 365, email, and file management.
- Ability to effectively read, write, understand, and communicate in English.
- Ability to follow established safety, quality, and production procedures.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to stand for 3–7 hours during the workday.
- Ability to frequently walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive movements as required by the position.
- Ability to push and pull materials, equipment, or components as needed.
- Ability to use hands and fingers to handle tools, equipment, measuring instruments, and parts throughout the workday.
- Ability to safely operate grinding machinery and related equipment.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to perform job duties safely in a shop/manufacturing environment.
