Director of Nursing (DON)

Thrive at Montvale – Montvale, NJ
Full-Time | Leadership Position

Thrive at Montvale is seeking an experienced, compassionate, and highly motivated Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our nursing and resident care team. The Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality resident care, providing leadership to the clinical team, and ensuring compliance with applicable New Jersey regulations, company policies, and professional standards.

The ideal candidate is a strong clinical leader who is organized, approachable, accountable, and committed to creating a positive environment for both residents and team members.

Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership, direction, and oversight to the nursing and resident care departments.
Ensure residents receive safe, appropriate, compassionate, and high-quality care.
Supervise, coach, and support nurses, medication aides, caregivers, and other clinical team members.
Participate in hiring, orientation, training, scheduling, performance management, and development of nursing staff.
Monitor resident conditions and ensure changes are appropriately assessed, documented, communicated, and followed up on.
Oversee resident assessments, service plans, care plans, and required clinical documentation.
Coordinate resident care with physicians, pharmacies, home health agencies, hospice providers, families, and other healthcare professionals.
Oversee medication management practices and ensure compliance with medication policies and applicable regulations.
Ensure proper documentation and follow-up for incidents, accidents, falls, hospital transfers, and changes in resident condition.
Participate in the admission process and evaluate prospective residents to determine whether their care needs can be safely and appropriately met by the community.
Monitor staffing levels and assist in maintaining appropriate clinical coverage.
Develop and provide education and in-service training for nursing and care staff.
Promote infection prevention and control practices throughout the community.
Participate in quality assurance, risk management, and performance improvement initiatives.
Maintain readiness for state surveys, inspections, and regulatory reviews.
Assist with investigations and corrective action related to clinical or resident-care concerns.
Maintain positive communication with residents and families and respond promptly and professionally to concerns.
Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and other department leaders to support the overall operation of the community.
Participate in the community's on-call leadership rotation as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Jersey required.
Previous nursing leadership or management experience required.
Experience in assisted living, senior living, long-term care, or a related healthcare setting strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of clinical practices, resident assessment, medication management, infection prevention, and regulatory compliance.
Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop a diverse clinical team.
Excellent organizational, communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to effectively communicate with residents, families, physicians, employees, and outside healthcare providers.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced senior living environment.
CPR/BLS certification preferred or required based on community policy.
