- Monitor official sources, Hebrew-language media, wire services, social media, and other reliable outlets for developing and breaking stories.
- Identify newsworthy events and determine their urgency and editorial priority.
- Write and publish concise, clear, factual breaking news updates for a live news ticker.
- Maintain a consistent flow of timely updates throughout each shift, significantly increasing output during major breaking news events.
- Verify information carefully before publication and apply rigorous sourcing and attribution standards.
- Exercise strong editorial judgment when assessing emerging reports, conflicting information, and rapidly changing situations.
- Coordinate closely with shift editors and newsroom leadership throughout each shift.
- Ensure smooth handoffs during breaks and shift changes so breaking news coverage remains continuous.
- Monitor emerging sources while following established verification procedures and editorial guidelines.
- Contribute ideas and improvements to newsroom workflows, monitoring practices, and overall editorial efficiency.
- Previous professional experience in journalism, news writing, editing, or a newsroom environment, preferably with exposure to breaking news.
- Exceptional news judgment and the ability to quickly recognize significant developments.
- Excellent English writing, editing, grammar, and communication skills.
- Ability to produce accurate, compelling copy under tight and sometimes intense deadlines.
- Strong fact-checking, verification, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Familiarity with Israeli current affairs, Israel-related news, and the broader regional news landscape.
- Hebrew reading ability is strongly preferred, particularly for monitoring Hebrew-language sources.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and accurate during rapidly developing or high-pressure news events.
- Comfortable collaborating within a remote newsroom and using Slack and other digital communication and publishing tools.
- Strong sense of journalistic responsibility, integrity, and commitment to factual reporting.
