Job Title: Finance Data Entry Specialist (Fall Semester Internship) Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Ty Dexter, Director Of Finance Grade:15

We offer year-around signature programs designed to uplift and strengthen individuals and families, including summer vacation packages and a day camp for kids. We also contract with ministries and organizations, helping them create their own impactful retreats and events on our property.

All of this happens at our breathtaking location on the headwaters of Chesapeake Bay in North East, Maryland. With 150 guest rooms in our lodge and 220 beautiful acres, we offer guests authentic hospitality and the rest and renewal they crave.

Position Overview

Sandy Cove Ministries is seeking a highly motivated Data Analytics Intern to support the development of key performance indicators (KPIs), dashboards, and data-driven insights across our ministry operations.

This role is ideal for a student or early-career professional with strong analytical, technical, and business acumen who is interested in applying data to support decision-making in a mission-driven, hospitality-based nonprofit environment.

The intern will play a key role in helping SCM better understand occupancy trends, program participation, and financial performance, enabling leadership to make more informed strategic decisions.

Key Responsibilities

1. KPI Development & Performance Analytics

  • Design and implement Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across:
  • Occupancy Metrics
  • Guest nights (by program, group, and lodging type)
  • Occupancy rates (% utilization by week/month)
  • Average length of stay

Program Participation Metrics

  • Registration trends vs capacity
  • Conversion rates (inquiries to bookings)
  • Program profitability by segment

Financial Metrics

  • Revenue per guest night
  • Contribution margin by program
  • Cost per guest / cost per program

2. Data Integration & Management

  • Consolidate data from multiple sources (registration systems, finance systems, spreadsheets)
  • Clean, validate, and structure datasets for reporting consistency
  • Develop data definitions and ensure alignment across departments
  • Support data governance and documentation practices

3. Dashboard & Reporting Development

  • Build interactive dashboards using tools such as:
  • Power BI / Tableau / Excel

Create automated reporting workflows for:

  • Weekly occupancy reports
  • Monthly financial dashboards
  • Program performance scorecards

Present insights in a clear, executive-friendly format

4. Forecasting & Trend Analysis

  • Analyze historical trends to support:
  • Occupancy forecasting
  • Seasonal demand planning
  • Revenue projections

Identify patterns in:

  • Group bookings
  • Summer camp participation
  • Midweek vs weekend utilization

5. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with:
  • Finance
  • Program teams
  • Guest services

Translate operational needs into measurable metrics

  • Support leadership with ad hoc analysis and decision support

Qualifications

Education

  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in:
  • Data Analytics, Information Management, Business Analytics, Finance, or related field

Technical Skills

  • Experience with:
  • Kobel (financial system) Raiser’s Edge (Development) Maestro (Reservations) – helpful
  • Data visualization tools (Power BI, Excel)
  • Data cleaning and transformation

Analytical & Business Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
  • Ability to translate data into actionable insights
  • Interest in business operations, finance, and performance metrics

Preferred Profile (Aligned with Target Candidate)

  • Experience working with multi-source datasets and reporting workflows
  • Exposure to forecasting, data quality, or governance projects
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, see, talk, and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
