Data Modeler

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Data Modeler based in United States.

This role supports a major healthcare modernization portfolio focused on improving how veteran and beneficiary programs operate through better data, automation, and system integration.
You will design and maintain enterprise data models and architecture that support claims, eligibility, appeals, reporting, and electronic data interchange initiatives.
The position combines data modeling, migration, integration, documentation, and quality assurance within a complex enterprise environment.
You will collaborate with technical teams, project leaders, business stakeholders, and government partners to translate operational needs into scalable data solutions.
Your work will help modernize legacy platforms, improve reporting and analytics, and enable more efficient automated workflows.

Success will require strong technical foundations, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex data concepts across multidisciplinary teams.

Accountabilities:
  • Design and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models supporting enterprise modernization initiatives.
  • Develop enterprise data architecture diagrams, system context diagrams, data flow diagrams, and other technical documentation.
  • Create and maintain data dictionaries, metadata standards, data lineage documentation, technical specifications, and migration documentation.
  • Analyze legacy systems and support the transition of provider, claims, eligibility, and operational data into modernized systems of record.
  • Develop data mapping specifications and transformation logic to support migration and integration activities.
  • Collaborate with developers, analysts, architects, project managers, and business stakeholders to ensure data solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with operational requirements.
  • Support integrations across eligibility systems, claims platforms, EDI platforms, centralized data repositories, and workflow or automation systems.
  • Help design reporting models, dashboards, and visualization solutions by translating business requirements and KPIs into appropriate data structures.
  • Support business rules and integrated data layers used for automation, decisioning, inventory management, and operational analytics.
  • Participate in User Acceptance Testing and end-to-end testing, validating data integrity, migration accuracy, and system behavior.
  • Identify, investigate, and help resolve data quality issues, defects, and integration challenges.
  • Support the development of business and technical requirements documentation, including Business Requirements Documents and related specifications.
  • Coordinate with technical teams throughout migration and implementation activities to ensure successful delivery.
  • Contribute to modernization and automation initiatives designed to improve operational efficiency and the experience of veterans and beneficiaries.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of professional experience in data modeling, database design, data architecture, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience designing conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
  • Experience working with relational database management systems and enterprise data environments.
  • Experience supporting large-scale modernization, systems integration, data migration, or comparable transformation initiatives.
  • Strong ability to create and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, data mappings, and related specifications.
  • Experience working across multidisciplinary teams and translating business requirements into practical data solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to data quality, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting federal healthcare programs, healthcare claims, eligibility, or EDI environments is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience with the Department of Veterans Affairs or Veterans Health Administration is a plus.
  • Familiarity with modernization, automation, or workflow transformation initiatives is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of X12 and/or NCPDP transaction standards is preferred.
  • Experience with reporting, analytics, data migration validation, and system integration would be beneficial.
