Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Database Reliability Engineer based in United States.
As a Senior Database Reliability Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the performance, availability, scalability, and resilience of mission-critical data platforms. You will operate at the intersection of database engineering, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and automation, with a strong focus on engineering reliable systems rather than traditional database administration. The role offers the opportunity to modernize operational practices through AI-driven automation and emerging technologies such as Model Context Protocol (MCP). You will work across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, AWS, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code environments. Your work will directly influence system reliability, developer productivity, operational efficiency, and cloud cost management. This is an environment suited to an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and continuously improving how data platforms operate.
- Own the reliability, performance, availability, and scalability of high-traffic production database environments, with a strong focus on Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
- Explore and implement AI tools, LLM integrations, and MCP-based solutions to reduce database toil, automate recurring operational tasks, improve query performance, and accelerate incident resolution.
- Support and optimize the data warehouse ecosystem, including Snowflake performance, application packaging, and testing.
- Perform deep performance engineering across database servers, databases, and queries, including optimization of queries generated through ORMs such as Entity Framework and Dapper.
- Lead capacity planning and resource forecasting across data platforms, identifying opportunities to optimize Snowflake credit consumption and right-size AWS infrastructure.
- Automate data infrastructure and operational workflows using Terraform, AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes, including the management of containerized and stateful workloads.
- Manage and improve CI/CD and database deployment processes using GitLab and Octopus Deploy, ensuring database schema changes are safe, repeatable, and reliable.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, self-service guides, architectural diagrams, and other materials that improve operational consistency and knowledge sharing.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert for SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Snowflake during a 24/7/365 on-call rotation, supporting incident triage and resolution.
- Collaborate with engineering and technology teams to continuously improve database reliability, automation, operational processes, and developer self-service capabilities.
- 10+ years of experience maintaining, engineering, and optimizing high-traffic production database environments, particularly Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
- Strong database engineering expertise, with an emphasis on automation, reliability, performance engineering, and scalable systems rather than traditional database administration.
- Hands-on experience with Terraform, AWS, GitLab, and Octopus Deploy in production DevOps environments.
- Expert-level knowledge of Docker and proven experience operating stateful applications in production Kubernetes environments.
- Strong experience with Snowflake is highly advantageous, particularly around performance optimization, packaging, and testing.
- Knowledge of MCP and practical experience using LLMs or AI tools for coding, operational automation, or engineering workflows is a strong plus.
- Expert-level Python and PowerShell skills, with familiarity with C# and object-oriented programming principles.
- Advanced experience tuning queries and database interactions generated through ORMs, including Entity Framework and Dapper.
- Hands-on familiarity with DynamoDB, as well as exposure to OpenSearch and Redis.
- Strong understanding of database reliability, capacity planning, cost optimization, CI/CD, infrastructure automation, and production incident management.
- Ability to analyze complex technical problems, prioritize effectively, and develop durable, automated solutions rather than relying on manual intervention.
- Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering and technical teams.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Base salary range of $161,000–$185,000 USD, with final compensation determined by location, qualifications, education, experience, skills, and performance.
- Comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance for full-time employees.
- Paid time off.
- Maternity and paternity leave for full-time employees.
- Short-term and long-term disability coverage.
- Competitive and equitable compensation practices.
- Opportunities to learn from and collaborate with an experienced leadership team.
- Opportunity to work in a rapidly growing technology environment focused on innovation and continuous improvement.
- Company-provided branded merchandise and employee perks.
