Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Platform Engineer (Infra Pod) based in United States.
As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will build the foundational infrastructure and shared engineering capabilities that enable product teams to deliver reliable software at scale.
You will work across cloud infrastructure, backend engineering, databases, integrations, and developer tooling to create secure and reusable platform services.
This is a highly leveraged role where your work will improve engineering velocity and operational reliability across the organization.
You will combine application engineering expertise with strong infrastructure knowledge to solve complex production challenges.
The role offers significant ownership over architectural standards, automation, scalability, and developer experience.
You will collaborate closely with engineering, product, and operations teams while helping establish patterns that enable teams to work more independently.
This opportunity is ideal for a pragmatic builder who enjoys tackling challenging infrastructure and backend problems in a fast-growing environment.
- Own and evolve the shared platform layer across critical systems, including cloud infrastructure, databases, CI/CD, source control, integrations, and core product services.
- Establish reusable infrastructure patterns, conventions, and abstractions that allow engineers to interact with complex systems consistently and confidently.
- Design, build, and operate scalable cloud infrastructure with a strong focus on reliability, security, performance, and developer experience.
- Develop foundational backend services in Ruby on Rails, including capabilities related to authorization and RBAC, jobs and queues, deployments, integrations, and other shared services.
- Own infrastructure and platform capabilities supporting identity and access management, health information exchange, electronic medical records, integrations, and application services.
- Identify infrastructure and engineering bottlenecks and turn manual or repetitive processes into reliable, self-service workflows that improve developer productivity.
- Build platform capabilities that can scale alongside growing engineering teams, products, integrations, and infrastructure without introducing operational constraints.
- Partner with product and engineering teams to understand their needs and deliver shared capabilities that accelerate development and improve reliability.
- Define technical standards and architectural conventions that provide a strong foundation for other engineers and teams.
- Participate in production operations, troubleshooting, incident resolution, and continuous improvements to the reliability and resilience of critical systems.
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience as a high-performing individual contributor, with a strong track record of building and operating production backend systems.
- Deep expertise in Ruby on Rails, including strong knowledge of application and data layers and hands-on experience developing and maintaining core backend services.
- Strong relational database expertise, including data modeling, query optimization, reading query plans, resolving slow queries and N+1 issues, and effective indexing strategies.
- Experience building and operating platform-level capabilities such as authentication and RBAC, job and queue systems, CI/CD, deployments, integrations, and shared engineering services.
- Ability to work comfortably across application and infrastructure layers, whether coming from an application engineering background with infrastructure expertise or a cloud/platform background with a willingness to work deeply in Rails.
- Proven experience handling complex production engineering challenges, including major framework upgrades, database migrations, zero-downtime schema changes, large-scale data backfills, dependency upgrades, and security remediation.
- A consistent approach to maintaining production codebases through dependency and package upgrades, treating technical maintenance as an ongoing engineering responsibility.
- Strong systems thinking and technical judgment, with the ability to create reusable patterns and abstractions that simplify complex systems for other engineers.
- Builder mindset with strong ownership, pragmatic problem-solving skills, and a bias toward execution.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, and operations teams.
- Experience with AWS and Terraform is advantageous but not required.
- Competitive annual salary of $180,000–$220,000 USD.
- Equity compensation package.
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage with HSA/FSA options and a company HSA contribution.
- Fully remote, U.S.-based work environment.
- Company-provided equipment and a $100 monthly home office stipend.
- Flexible paid time off and 12 paid holidays.
- 100% company-paid life, disability, and AD&D insurance.
- Backup childcare and caregiver concierge resources.
- Access to financial guidance and support resources.
- Opportunity to contribute to highly leveraged platform infrastructure supporting a growing technology organization.
- Mission-driven environment focused on building scalable systems that improve access to healthcare and social services.
