Job Description

Senior Mechanical Engineer

08/25/2026

Reports to: Mechanical Engineering Manager

Position Type/Hours:

Full-time, on-site position. Core office hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Position Purpose:

Are you a senior mechanical engineer who thrives in custom machine design, where every project brings a new challenge and the best solutions require both instinct and engineering rigor?

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Delta ModTech, you will transform customer requirements and conceptual solutions into production-ready designs for custom web converting, coating, and automation systems. Working closely with cross-functional teams and customers, you will lead complex mechanical design efforts from concept through implementation.

Success in this role requires exceptional mechanical aptitude, strong engineering judgment, and a high level of personal drive. The ideal candidate can navigate ambiguity, make sound technical decisions, communicate effectively under pressure, and take ownership of delivering innovative solutions that meet customer needs.

We hire for both capability and character. Strong candidates demonstrate the humility to always learn, the courage to challenge assumptions, the discipline to follow through, and a servant-leadership mindset that helps teammates and customers succeed.

Essential Functions:

  • Work closely with an integrated project team of applications engineers, electrical engineers, project managers, process engineers, technicians, and fellow mechanical engineers while refining project scope and developing new, challenging design concepts.
  • Communicate directly with customers in a clear, professional, and consultative manner that reflects Delta’s motto of "Serving people by solving problems."
  • Independently execute complex mechanical engineering work with minimal oversight and lead 1-5 fellow mechanical engineers when project scope requires coordinated design ownership.
  • Apply experience in coating, converting, web handling, machine automation, or packaging to design high-speed, accurate web-handling systems, including precision components such as rollers, die cutters, registration systems, tension control systems, and related mechanical assemblies.
  • Design overall machine layouts, custom assemblies and mechanical parts according to sketches, quotes, user requirement specifications and other instructions using Inventor 3D CAD & AutoCAD 2D.
  • Produce complete machine layout drawings, assembly drawings, part detail drawings, bills of material, and related design documentation.
  • Select qualified vendors of required purchased mechanical parts such as bearings, fittings, fasteners, sensors, valves, etc.
  • Procure and integrate purchased process components, i.e. Vision, Printers, Lasers, Drying Systems, etc.
  • Lead internal and external technical design reviews, conference calls and meetings.
  • Participate in system assembly, debug, and runoff on the production floor to validate design intent, learn from manufacturing/process realities, and continuously improve machine design quality.
  • Apply strong project leadership skills, including scope, resource, and schedule management; machine cost awareness; communication; risk reduction; and mitigation planning to consistently meet objectives and timelines.
  • Continue personal and professional development through R&D projects, trade show attendance, training, department and company initiatives, and subject-matter expertise development.
    • Model, steward, make decisions through, and expect to be held accountable to Delta ModTech’s values in daily engineering work, customer interactions, project decisions, and team collaboration. These values include:
      • BELIEVE IN PEOPLE
      • FEARLESS INNOVATION
      • INTEGRITY
      • PASSIONATE & TENACIOUS
      • SERVANT LEADERSHIP

  • 5+ years of experience leading technical work, mentoring engineers, coordinating design teams, or owning major design packages to deliver projects on time and on budget.
  • Highly skilled in 3D modeling and CAD software, with the ability to create clear machine layouts, robust assemblies, detailed part drawings, and accurate documentation for custom automation systems. Familiarity with AutoCAD 2D.
  • Ability to apply engineering judgment, hand calculations, and appropriate analysis methods to validate designs where risk, performance, safety, cost, or uncertainty require more than experience-based decision-making.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.
