Utilities Backhoe Operator in Bowmansville, Pennsylvania at Brubacher Excavating Inc

Operates a rubber tire tractor type vehicle that is equipped with a front and rear mounted hydraulically powered bucket. Is responsible for maintaining job site and material in an organized and efficient order.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Be able to perform safe operations in active roadway work zones
• May need to perform minor land clearing/grubbing
• Strip topsoil in small areas
• Bucket material on site or to load trucks
• Grade small pads and parking lots, etc.
• Load and unload materials
• Remove curb and sidewalk
• May use pad and laser
• Dig trenches (footer/electric/gas/sewer/water, etc.)
• Assist help in a variety of labor tasks as needed
• Responsible for daily transportation to the job site.
• Push back spoil piles
• Lay out pipe material, stay ahead of the crew's needs
• Supply stone, either in stone box or in trench
• Backfill and compact trench in proper lifts with hydraulic tamper
• Make sure area is back to grade and has proper drainage

Maintenance

• Check fluids on machine and add if needed
• Lubricate according to operator's manual instructions unless superseded by BEI policy and instructions
• Perform daily visual inspection of the machine
• Completes a daily inspection form
• Responsible for daily transportation to the job site.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• No formal education is required; trade school or related technical training is a plus.
• Previous experience operating a backhoe or other heavy equipment is preferred.
• Previous trenching and/or excavation experience is preferred.
• Ability and willingness to learn proper equipment operation and follow operator manuals and manufacturer guidelines.
• Ability to learn and follow company safety policies and procedures, including identifying hazards and taking appropriate corrective action.
