Job Description
Job Summary
· Provides professional, safe, quality towing, recovery and emergency road services for large trucks and vehicles while following Company policies and all applicable motor carrier laws and guidelines.
Essential Functions
· Can effectively and safely handle towing and recovery jobs involving heavy trucks, equipment, and large vehicles
· Responds in an efficient and timely manner to all calls assigned or dispatched
· Accepts assigned work schedule, including possible “On-Call” assignments for nights and weekends, as necessary
· Assesses needs and provides safe and appropriate attachment for recovery, up righting and towing of vehicles
· Timely, safely, and promptly completes detailed invoicing and documentation of service provided
· Maintains assigned tow truck and towing equipment in clean, neat, service-ready condition, subject to inspection at any time
· Performs daily Fleetio pre-trip inspections, reporting in a timely manner
· Consistently adheres to Company personal appearance and uniform standards
· Assists in storage yard, office and shop as needed
· Attends mandatory safety meetings
· Stays up to date on safe handling procedures for hazardous materials
· Driving, sitting, bending, lifting, hearing and responding to radio and telephone communications; Performs such other duties as may be assigned by manager
· Must be flexible with schedule, as all Road Runner drivers are subject to recall at any time and must work a rotating schedule of on-call nights, weekends and/ or holidays in addition to a schedule assigned during the work week
· Foster a positive attitude and work environment, and be able to work as an individual and as a team, at times with minimal supervision
· Diligent with work and all assigned tasks, using the best of ability and skill at all times
· Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
· Valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and valid, Federal Department of Transportation Medical Card
· Valid DCJS Card from the State of Virginia to be obtained within 60 days of employment
· Obtain Wreckmaster Level 4/5 within 12 months of initial employment
· Current motor vehicle record reflecting safe driving history
· Participates in ongoing training and actively seeks professional knowledge within the field of Heavy-Duty Towing
· Ability to speak, understand, and write English legibly
· Sufficient math skills to calculate invoices, i.e., adding, subtracting, percentage calculations etc.
· Functional knowledge of geographic area served
· Basic mechanical understanding
· Ability to safely lift 100lbs.
· Follow professional appearance guidelines for all Road Runner Employees and Drivers
Requirements:Skills Required
· Familiarity with various vehicle makes and models; rates, requirements, invoice procedures and service areas for different customers
· Knowledge of safe attachment and towing procedures for vehicles towed
· Proper use of mobile radios and pagers, map reading ability
· Comprehension of directions, responding timely and effectively to call assignments
· Safe backing skills into tight quarters without damage to towed vehicle, customer’s property or tow truck
· Accident scene management and safe vehicle recovery techniques of hazardous materials, identification and handling

· Professional appearance and behavior
· Positive attitude, customer service skills, tact, diplomacy, empathy, and ability to deal effectively with irate or upset customers
· Responds professionally when dealing with law enforcements personnel; Remains calm and rational in emergency situations
· Outstanding communication/rapport building skills and team attitude in dealing with all other company personnel
Eligibility for Guarantee
· Class “A” CDL/ clean driving record/ DCJS Card/ current Medical Card
· Minimum 1 year driving a commercial vehicle
· Fulfill your full-time schedule including on call nights and weekends
· No disciplinary issues (guarantee is suspended during disciplinary/probationary process)
· No damage claims (guarantee is suspended for the duration of probationary commission)
· PTO use or unauthorized leave (for that pay period)
· Availability for emergency after-hour calls and proximity to service area
Job Duties for Operators on “Guaranteed” Pay Include, But Are Not Limited To:
Driver who anticipates or experiences downtime should immediately contact their supervisor to determine and prioritize the jobs they need to fulfill while not running calls.
Drivers on a guarantee are required to work their full schedule as assigned by their supervisor and fulfill the job duties outlined in the previous page, as well as below, in order to meet their guarantee.
During downtime, operators on a “guarantee” type salary must be able and willing to perform the following additional duties as directed in the office and shop.
· Laborer- work around the shop and yard to clean, inspect, perform minor mechanical repairs and maintenance, load and deliver materials, remove, fill or compact earth, put together and take apart furniture or temporary structures, perform site clean up
· Yard Work- use lawn equipment such as mower, weed-whacker, rake, shovel, etc. to maintain facility ground
· Janitorial Duties- sweep floors, clean windows, remove trash, organize parts, snow and debris removal, power washing etc.
· Truck Detail- clean, polish, vacuum, top off fluids, engine cleaning, power washing, window cleaning, chrome polish etc.
