DDOT Truck Driver in Washington, District of Columbia at First Choice Construction Inc

Position Summary: The CDL Class A Driver safely transports heavy highway equipment, civil materials, and tools to active DDOT commercial roadway and paving sites throughout the Washington DC metro area. Operating a range of fleet vehicles–up to a full-size cab with a 40-foot trailer–this role ensures that production crews have the structural materials, thermoplastic supplies, and heavy machinery required to meet strict task-order windows without causing project delays.

Key Responsibilities

Delivery and Transport Operations
• Execute a multi-stop daily transport schedule across high-congestion corridors in DC.
• Safely operate commercial fleet vehicles including standard pickups, medium-duty flatbeds, and a full-size tractor with a 40’ flatbed or lowboy trailer.
• Transport specialized civil infrastructure assets: concrete formwork, rebar, traffic controls devices (attenuators, message boards), and raw materials (thermoplastic blocks, glass beads).
• Coordinate tight delivery windows with the Field Supervisor to ensure zero disruption to active lane-closure permits
• Verify cargo manifesting against supplier tickets before leaving the year; mandate field signatures for all on-site drop-offs via company ticket.
Load Securement & Fleet Ownership
• Properly secure all loads using chains, binders, straps, and winch lines according to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and DOT regulations.
• Perform rigorous daily FMCSA-mandate pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; report any mechanical flaws immediately to the Field Supervisor.
• Maintain clear fluid levels, check tire pressures, and ensure vehicles are kept clean and professional.
Logistical Yard Support
• Assist yard personnel with loading and unloading operations using a forklift during non-driving windows.
• Maintain physical inventory logs, ensuring that returned tools, damaged forms, or leftover pavement markings are categorized and checked back into the system correctly.
Communication & Documentation
• Communicate professionally with field crews and coordinate delivery timing
• Complete daily delivery logs and documentation accurately.
• Take and upload photos using smartphone/tablet.
• Report field feedback and equipment needs to the Field Supervisor.
• Maintain DOT compliance and driver logs (when applicable).

Required Qualifications

Licenses & Experience
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record
• Class A CDL required for 40' trailer operation (or willingness to obtain within 90 days)
• Clean MVR (no more than 2 minor violations in past 3 years)
• Minimum 2 years’ commercial driving experience preferred
• Ability to pass drug screening and background check
Skills & Competencies
• Experience operating various truck types including flatbeds and trailers
• Strong navigation skills in Washington DC metro area
• Proficient with smartphone/tablet for GPS, communication, and photo documentation
• Knowledge of load securing techniques (straps, chains, binders)
• Ability to lift 50-75 pounds regularly
• Professional communication skills with field crews
• Excellent time management and reliability

• Forklift certification
• Tanker or Hazmat endorsements (for transporting specialized pavement-marking chemistry/solvents)
