The Director, National Field Access (Central) will lead a regional team responsible for optimizing patient access and reimbursement support within a complex healthcare environment. This role combines strategic leadership, operational execution, and hands-on problem solving to ensure patients receive timely access to critical therapies. You will manage and develop a team of field reimbursement professionals while partnering with internal and external stakeholders to overcome access barriers. The position requires a strong understanding of payer dynamics, reimbursement processes, specialty pharmacy operations, and patient support programs. - Lead, coach, and develop a regional team of Field Reimbursement Managers, providing ongoing mentorship, performance feedback, and professional growth opportunities.
- Recruit, onboard, and train new team members while ensuring effective ramp-up and alignment with regional and national objectives.
- Establish, monitor, and improve regional performance metrics, including enrollment volumes, turnaround times, prior authorization outcomes, appeal success rates, and patient access results.
- Manage regional incentive and performance programs to align team execution with broader organizational goals.
- Serve as the escalation leader for complex access challenges, including payer denials, appeals, specialty pharmacy issues, and patient support workflow barriers.
- Conduct field visits and ride-alongs to assess performance, reinforce best practices, and identify opportunities for coaching and improvement.
- Translate national access strategies into actionable regional plans, optimizing territory alignment, resource allocation, and team effectiveness.
- Analyze regional data and field insights to identify access trends, operational barriers, and opportunities for process improvements.
- Partner with commercial, patient services, market access, compliance, and operational teams to improve collaboration and ensure effective execution.
- Lead regional forums, share best practices, and contribute insights that shape broader access strategies and initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree such as MBA, MPH, PharmD, or similar preferred.
- 12+ years of experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, reimbursement, or market access roles.
- At least 5 years of direct leadership experience managing field-based teams such as Field Reimbursement Managers, Access Specialists, or related patient access professionals.
- Experience working within complex therapeutic areas such as rare disease, endocrinology, specialty medicine, or other high-touch access environments preferred.
- Strong knowledge of the U.S. payer and reimbursement landscape, including prior authorization processes, appeals, specialty pharmacy models, HUB operations, and patient support programs.
- Experience supporting product launches or post-launch access initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to drive performance through teams, influence cross-functional stakeholders, and resolve complex business challenges.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and convert insights into actionable strategies.
- Excellent communication, leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel extensively within the assigned region, up to 60%, for field engagement and team support.
