Job Description
The Orthopedic Nurse Navigator and Joint Educator serves as the primary clinical liaison and educator for patients receiving orthopaedic care across the continuum, including total joint replacement, spine procedures, fractures, and other orthopedic surgeries. This role guides patients from initial consultation through postoperative recovery, rehabilitation, and transition back to the community.
Working collaboratively with orthopedic surgeons, advanced practice providers, perioperative teams, inpatient nursing, rehabilitation services, case management, home health, and ancillary departments, the nurse promotes evidence-based practice, enhances patient understanding, improves clinical outcomes, and supports the strategic growth of Med Center Health’s orthopedic service line. The Orthopaedic Navigator & Joint Educator ensures patients are informed, prepared, and supported throughout their surgical journey while demonstrating Med Center Health’s values in every interaction.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Kentucky or compact state licensure.
- Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience required.
- Previous experience in orthopaedics, surgical services, medical-surgical nursing, or patient education preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and patient education skills.
- Ability to effectively educate patients and caregivers with varying levels of health literacy.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and standard computer applications.
- Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, clinical staff, and ancillary departments.
