Legal Aid of West Virginia (LAWV) is seeking a detail-oriented and service-focused Human Resources Specialist to join our Administrative Unit. Position Summary
The Human Resources Specialist serves as a key member of LAWV's Administrative Unit and supports employees across multiple office locations statewide. This position is primarily responsible for payroll administration, benefits coordination, HR information systems management, and employee onboarding and offboarding processes.
Based in our newly renovated downtown Charleston administrative office, this role helps ensure the accurate and efficient delivery of critical HR services that support LAWV's mission and workforce.
Essential Responsibilities
Payroll Administration
- Process and maintain bi-weekly payroll in accordance with organizational policies and applicable regulations.
- Review payroll data for accuracy and completeness.
- Process payroll allocations and related reporting requirements.
- Assist with payroll audits and recordkeeping.
Benefits Administration
- Process benefit payments and enrollment changes.
- Reconcile payroll deductions with vendor invoices.
- Maintain benefits records and assist with employee inquiries.
- Provide benefits-related information for grant billing and reporting purposes.
Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)
- Maintain employee, payroll, and benefits data within the Paylocity HRIS platform.
- Ensure the accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity of personnel records.
- Generate reports and assist with HR data management.
Employee Onboarding and Offboarding
- Coordinate new hire onboarding activities, orientations, and employment documentation.
- Facilitate employee separation processes and system updates.
- Ensure compliance with recordkeeping and documentation requirements.
Administrative and HR Support
- Review and approve processed timesheets.
- Assist with HR projects, audits, reporting, and administrative initiatives.
- Support the Director of Human Resources and Operations with department priorities and special projects.
- Associate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field.
- Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in human resources, payroll, accounting, or benefits administration.
- Experience using payroll software, HRIS platforms, and other business systems.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
Preferred
- Experience working in a multi-site organization.
- Experience with Paylocity or other cloud-based HRIS systems.
- Familiarity with nonprofit organizations and grant-funded environments.
- HR, payroll, or benefits administration experience.
