TITLE: Life Skills Coach
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
HOURS: Full-time
RESPONSIBLE TO: Program Coordinator
DIRECT REPORTS: None
LOCATION: St. Louis, MO
SALARY: $40,000-$42,000 per year, paid bi-weekly

Position Description
Life Skills Coach will work closely with other staff and clients in developing and implementing identified treatment goals, especially in regard to housing. Responsibilities include client outreach, eligibility screening, counseling, and coordinating housing and services in compliance with HUD guidelines. The Life Skills Coach will manage documentation and reports, and ensure clients are connected to resources and maintain progress toward permanent housing.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions
• Develops tools to assess level of functioning in performing life skills and help clients learn better ways of doing things to be more successful in housing
• Conducts life skill assessment and evaluation of needs within 45 days of entry to program
• Develops treatment plans/goals with all clients within 60 days of entry to program to address concerns regarding life skills and a plan to train/teach client needed skills
• Conducts periodic reviews of treatment plans/goals and adjusts plan as needed
• Help with client move-ins and help clients to set up their apartments
• Works with clients to be good tenants and neighbors; Mediates problems to avoid evictions
• Introduces clients to neighborhood and resources in their community
• Meets with each client as outlined in treatment plan and program guidelines to work on identified goals and assess ongoing housing needs (ex. Budgeting, household chores, nutrition/cooking, shopping, laundry, public transportation, hygiene etc.)
• Connects client to community resources/supports, supports clients at appointments and encourages ongoing participation
• Coordinates care with other involved services providers
• Assesses clients mental/physical health care needs and connects clients to appropriate community providers. Encourages compliance with treatment suggestions
• Participates in team meetings to review/update regarding clients and set schedule
• Maintains a daily progress note on all clients seen and completes other assigned paperwork
• Provides crisis intervention to clients as needed
• Provides a means of communication that clients may use during work hours
• Helps set policy and programming to ensure that clients are getting the support that they need and that the guidelines are in accordance with the grant in coordination with team

Additional Tasks and Responsibilities
• Develops new programming as needed to better serve clients
• Helps in the preparation of any needed reports
• Works with volunteers/practicum students to better serve clients
• Attends community meetings, networks with other service providers as needed and required
• Communicates regularly with Program Coordinator

General Responsibilities.
• Stays informed of current local and national events, trends, and issues (wherever possible) that impact Depaul USA’s work with the homeless.
• Strives continuously to develop the role in collaboration with the supervisor to ensure that all tasks are undertaken effectively and appropriately, meeting the strategic goals and objectives of Depaul USA.
• Participates in internal/external meetings as required and attends training events, conferences, and other functions as necessary. Participates in regular supervision and annual appraisal and helps in identifying your job-related development and training needs.
• Ensures adherence to all Depaul USA policies and procedures, particularly those relating to Health and Safety, Safeguarding, Code of Practice, and Confidentiality.
• Contributes to the effective implementation of Depaul USA’s Equal Opportunities Policy as it affects both the organization and its work with this client group.
• Undertakes the role professionally, always maintaining a high-quality work standard and always working in accordance with the Vision, Mission, and Values of Depaul USA.
• Undertakes any other duties that may be required which are commensurate with the role.

Qualifications
The ideal Life Skills Coach will be a professional with at least five years of experience in case management with vulnerable segments of the population. S/he will have experience working with individuals who have faced homelessness and struggled with issues of mental illness, cognitive disabilities, and addictions, as well people who are newly housed or employed. The Life Skills Coach should possess the following:
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in related field (ex. social work, psychology, etc.); 5 years’ work experience in related field; Licensed Clinical Social Worker preferred.
• Exceptional communication, multi‐tasking, conflict management and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and experience with data management systems
• Ability to organize tasks, events, people, and delegate effectively.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment when appropriate and strong decision-making skills.
• Experience working with diverse populations

Work Schedule:
• Onsite at St. Lazare House, 2912 Arsenal St, St. Louis, MO with limited offsite work.
• Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CST.
• In rotation with leadership team on call evenings, nights, weekends and holidays
