Job Description

About Mission Advancement

Since 2007, Mission Advancement has helped human service nonprofits and independent schools strengthen their fundraising and advance their missions. Our relationship-based approach combines fundraising strategy, major gifts expertise, campaign counsel, and practical development support to help organizations build lasting fundraising capacity.

We partner with leaders, boards, and advancement teams to grow annual support, develop and execute capital campaigns, strengthen major gift fundraising, and create long-term development strategies. At Mission Advancement, our work is ultimately about people, helping organizations build the relationships, resources, and capacity they need to make a greater impact.

Mission Advancement is seeking a Grant Consultant (Writing) to help nonprofit organizations strengthen their

fundraising capacity and secure the resources needed to advance their missions. This role is ideal for a strong writer

and strategic thinker who understands nonprofit fundraising, enjoys building relationships, and can translate an

organization’s mission and priorities into compelling funding proposals. This individual is familiar with the grant

landscape including foundations, research, funder priorities, proposal development, and the application process.

Consultants at Mission Advancement work with a diverse portfolio of nonprofit clients and must be comfortable

navigating a wide range of organizational cultures, leadership styles, and fundraising environments. As a member of

the Client Service team, this position will primarily support clients with grant strategy and writing, while also

contributing to campaign, annual fundraising, and other consulting engagements based on experience and client

need.

The ideal candidate brings demonstrated success in grant writing, strong nonprofit experience, excellent

communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Some travel may be required.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead Grant Strategy & Writing

• Develop, write, and edit grant proposals, letters of inquiry, boilerplate content, and other funding materials for

a portfolio of nonprofit clients.

• Help clients identify prospective funders, assess funding opportunities, and align fundable projects with

organizational priorities.

• Develop compelling case statements and proposals for capital campaigns, annual fundraising, and other

development initiatives.

• Partner with Mission Advancement consultants and client leadership to develop and execute effective

fundraising strategies.

• Monitor deadlines, deliverables, and next steps across multiple client engagements.

Advise & Strengthen Client Teams

• Serve as a strategic resource to nonprofit advancement teams, organizational leaders, and volunteers.

• Provide guidance, training, and coaching to strengthen clients’ fundraising and grant-development

capabilities.

• Build trusted relationships with clients and communicate proactively, professionally, and responsively.

Collaborate as a Consultant

• Communicate project status, priorities, challenges, and opportunities clearly and consistently.

• Manage multiple projects and competing deadlines while maintaining a high standard of quality.

• Contribute to other client engagements and organizational initiatives based on experience and

organizational need.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

• Bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years of demonstrated success writing grant proposals for foundation, corporate,

and/or government funders; equivalent experience will be considered.

• Strong understanding of nonprofit organizations and fundraising best practices.

• Demonstrated understanding of the philanthropic landscape, including private and community foundations,

corporate giving programs, and other institutional funding sources.

• Familiarity with grant research, funder priorities, funding eligibility, proposal development, and the grant

application process.

• Exceptional writing and editing skills, including grammar and spelling, with the ability to communicate

complex ideas clearly, concisely, and persuasively.

• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.

• Strategic and proactive approach to identifying needs, solving problems, and moving projects forward.

• Ability to build strong relationships with clients, organizational leaders, and volunteers.

• Ability to influence and achieve results through collaboration rather than formal authority.

• Professional, confident, and adaptable communication style.

• Ability to work effectively with faith-based organizations and navigate a variety of organizational cultures.

• Comfortable working independently while also contributing as part of a collaborative, hybrid team.

• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office.
