Job Title: Social Security Disability Managing Attorney
Location: Midtown Manhattan Location – Onsite Role
Salary Range: $150K–$210K plus a percentage of all cases and full benefits
A highly respected New York plaintiff-side law firm specializing in Social Security Disability, Workers’ Compensation, Civil Service Disability Pensions, Construction & Workplace Accidents, Personal Injury, and Long-Term Workplace Illnesses is seeking an experienced and strategic Social Security Disability Managing Attorney to lead and oversee the firm’s Social Security Disability practice. The law firm has represented injured and disabled New Yorkers for more than 80 years and has recovered billions in settlements and awards for over 100,000 clients.
This leadership role is responsible for supervising attorneys and support staff, managing high-volume disability caseloads, driving case strategies, ensuring exceptional client service, and maintaining compliance with all federal and state regulations governing Social Security Disability claims.
The ideal candidate is an accomplished advocate with extensive experience handling Social Security Disability Benefits and Claims, including hearings before SSDB Administrative Law Judges (ALJs), Appeals Council review, and federal court appeals.
Key Responsibilities:
· Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Social Security Disability department.
· Supervise, mentor, and evaluate attorneys, paralegals, hearing representatives, and administrative staff.
· Develop and implement legal strategies for SSDB at all stages of the process.
· Represent clients at hearings before Administrative Law Judges and in appeals before the Appeals Council and federal court.
· Review complex cases and provide guidance on eligibility, medical evidence development, and vocational issues.
· Monitor department performance metrics, case progression, and compliance standards.
· Ensure timely case handling and adherence to firm policies, ethical obligations, and SSA regulations.
· Collaborate with intake, litigation, and marketing teams to improve client acquisition and retention.
· Build and maintain strong client relationships through compassionate and effective advocacy.
· Conduct training programs and continuing legal education for department personnel.
· Stay current on developments in Social Security law, regulations, and administrative procedures.
· Participate in business development and strategic planning initiatives for the practice group.
Qualifications:
· Active license to practice law in New York; New Jersey admission is a plus.
· Minimum of 10 years of experience handling Social Security Disability cases.
· Prior management or supervisory experience in a plaintiff-side disability practice preferred.
· Extensive experience appearing before Administrative Law Judges and handling Appeals Council matters.
· Strong understanding of SSA regulations, medical evidence review, and vocational analysis.
· Proven ability to manage high-volume caseloads and legal teams effectively.
· Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
· Client-focused mindset with strong advocacy and interpersonal abilities.
· Experience with case management software and legal technology platforms.
Preferred Skills:
· Federal court litigation experience involving Social Security appeals.
· Bilingual skills (Spanish or other languages) are a plus.
· Experience developing departmental workflows and operational efficiencies.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
· Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
