Information Systems Auditors play a vital role in strengthening government accountability across Tennessee by evaluating the technology, processes, and controls that support state operations. In this role, you will examine how information systems are designed, secured, and used to manage public resources, ensuring that data is accurate, systems are reliable, and agencies operate efficiently and in compliance with laws and regulations. Your work helps protect financial integrity, enhance transparency, and support better decision‑making at every level of state government.

- Examine general and application-specific controls, including security management, access controls, change management, segregation of duties, contingency planning, and business processes.
- Prepare neat, concise, logical, and well-supported working papers that comply with auditing standards and best practices.
- Conduct high-quality data analyses that support audit opinions and findings with proper context.
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders such as the General Assembly, local governing bodies, elected officials, media, and citizens.
- Identify opportunities for innovation and increased efficiency to support the office’s mission.
- Professionally represent the Comptroller’s Office and use auditee time effectively
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, computer information systems, computer science, information security, or data analytics
- Strong attention to detail, critical thinking skills, accuracy, and ability to learn quickly
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and collaborate in a team environment
- Coursework in computer information systems, information security, computer science, or data analytics
- CPA or CISA (strongly encouraged but not required)
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
- Travel: Occasional overnight travel is required within the state. The frequency varies by assignment and business need, but employee preference is considered.
