Job Description
Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Lead Custodian/Maintenance oversees the daily operations and leadership of the custodial staff at the assigned campuses. This position ensures that all buildings and grounds are maintained at the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and functionality. The Lead Custodian Maintenance will also work closely with the Maintenance Team to support minor maintenance tasks and assist with the completion of cleaning and maintenance-related work tickets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Lead and support custodial teams at assigned school campuses, and support other campuses as needed
- Ensure custodial tasks are completed efficiently, with appropriate use of time and materials.
- Inspect classrooms, offices, restrooms, and other school facilities to ensure cleanliness and compliance with district standards
- Provide training and ongoing support to custodial staff.
- Coordinate the setup and breakdown of furniture and equipment for campus events.
- Maintain inventory and order cleaning supplies and materials as needed.
- Work collaboratively with the Maintenance Team to support minor maintenance and repairs.
- Assist in completing assigned cleaning and minor maintenance work orders or tickets.
- Perform custodial and minor maintenance tasks as needed, including but not limited to:
- Sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing floors
- Window, wall, and ventilation cleaning
- Minor non-technical repairs and adjustments
- Pruning, planting, and watering of landscaped areas
- Safeguard school property and report any issues related to safety or facility conditions.
- Serve as a liaison between the custodial team, maintenance team, and school leadership, ensuring open and effective communication.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the COO or site administrators
- Lead a diverse team of custodial staff
- Collaborate effectively with the Maintenance Team
- Evaluate staff performance and provide constructive feedback to COO
- Train staff in custodial techniques and safety procedures
- Prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Communicate clearly and professionally with staff, administrators, and students
- Follow and give oral and written instructions
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly, and occasionally up to 100 lbs
- Perform physical labor including bending, squatting, climbing, and reaching
This position requires the ability to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods
- Frequently bend, twist, squat, and reach overhead
- Use both hands and arms regularly for handling and lifting
- Lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally
- Push and pull equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments across multiple school campuses. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and noise is expected. Some evening or weekend work may be required for special events or emergencies.

Requirements: QUALIFICATIONSEducation- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of custodial experience.
- Supervisory experience in a c ustodial or facilities-related setting preferred.
- Valid California Driver’s License.
- Must be insurable under the District's liability insurance policy.
- Custodial materials, equipment, and cleaning methods
- Health and safety regulations related to facilities and maintenance
- Scheduling and organizing custodial staff and workloads
- Basic heating, air conditioning, and minor repair techniques
- Safe operation of cleaning and maintenance equipment
- Maintenance ticket systems and basic reporting procedures
