Organizational Overview:

Notre Dame School of Milwaukee is a Catholic School founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Milwaukee, WI. The school was founded in 1996 as Notre Dame Middle School, an all girls 5th-8th grade middle school to serve Latinas on the southside of Milwaukee. Today Notre Dame School of Milwaukee is a Grade K3-8 Catholic school sponsored by the School Sisters of Notre Dame. It has a co-education primary school serving boys and girls in a Spanish and English dual language model. NDSM addresses the urgent, critical needs of the community through student-focused education. We currently serve over 690 students across three campuses and we have both an all-boys and all-girls middle school, a co-ed primary school, and an Early Childhood Education program. Reports To: Building Principal

Areas of Responsibility: Academics

Position Overview: The assistant principal is part of the school leadership team and works with the principal to fulfill the mission of the Catholic School to create a positive learning environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school and assumes leadership of the school in the absence of the principal
  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Commitment to the belief that all students can learn at high levels by establishing and promoting high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior and learning
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, and staff
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, resilient, and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to learning by supporting a student culture with high behavioral expectations
  • Supports the principal with teacher coaching and teacher classroom management
  • Supports the principal with reviewing teacher units/lesson plans
  • Assist with campus-specific professional development and school-wide professional development
  • Supports with the operational and logistical planning and execution of summer school
  • Assists with the hiring process
  • Collaborate with business office staff and other campus staff
  • Manages attendance (attendance contracts)
  • Manages behavior probation (probation contracts)
  • Support with arrival and dismissal procedures
  • Organizes campus-specific pep rallies, celebrations, assemblies
  • Organizes masses and creates the mass calendar
  • Collaborates with the social worker/counselor on attendance/tardy issues
  • Coordinates substitute teacher coverage
  • Provides announcement support
  • Supports with lunch/recess by being present
  • Assists with the creation of student and staff schedules
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Experience: Practicing Catholic, Current teaching certification, Master’s degree in education with licensure as a principal.
