JOB PROFILE: Roadway Maintenance Technician
Location: Broomfield, Colorado (Northwest Parkway operations)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Roadway Maintenance Technician plays a critical dual role in supporting both roadway maintenance operations and active roadway safety through patrol and incident response. This position is responsible for performing hands-on maintenance activities, proactively monitoring roadway conditions, assisting motorists, and responding to incidents to ensure the Parkway remains safe, operational, and compliant with concession and regulatory requirements.
Working under the direction of the Foreman or Supervisor, this role combines field maintenance expertise with customer-facing roadside assistance and emergency response, serving as a visible and professional representative of Northwest Parkway.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Roadway Maintenance & Operations
- Perform general roadway maintenance including pavement repairs, debris removal, drainage clearing, signage upkeep, guardrail repair, and landscaping.
- Assist with preventive and corrective maintenance tasks such as patching, crack sealing, striping support, shoulder repairs, and snow/ice removal.
- Operate basic tools, equipment, and maintenance vehicles.
- Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, vehicles, and equipment.
- Support routine inspections and report maintenance issues or hazards.
- Patrol assigned roadway segments to identify hazards, disabled vehicles, and safety concerns.
- Remove debris and roadway hazards to maintain safe driving conditions.
- Perform routine inspections of roadway conditions, signage, and right-of-way areas.
- Provide roadside assistance, including minor mechanical support (e.g., jump starts), coordinating tow services, and assisting stranded motorists.
- Serve as a professional, customer-focused representative of Northwest Parkway when interacting with the public.
- Respond to roadway incidents, emergencies, and adverse weather events.
- Assist with traffic control setup and breakdown, including lane closures, in accordance with MUTCD and Colorado requirements.
- Coordinate with dispatch, supervisors, and external agencies (e.g., CDOT, law enforcement, fire/EMS).
- Support incident cleanup and restoration of normal traffic flow.
- Maintain accurate daily logs, activity reports, and incident documentation.
- Communicate roadway conditions, incidents, and maintenance needs to supervisors and dispatch in a timely manner.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and safe work zone practices.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in on-call rotations, shift work, and extended hours as required.
- Support additional maintenance or operational activities as needed.
- Perform All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED preferred (not required depending on experience).
- 0–3 years of experience in roadway maintenance, construction, public works, landscaping, or similar outdoor labor roles preferred.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance equipment preferred.
- Familiarity with roadway environments, traffic control, or highway safety practices is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license required; ability to obtain CDL preferred.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding work.
- Certifications such as flagger certification, OSHA 10, or traffic control training are a plus but not required.
- Ability to perform field work, including climbing and working at heights
