PART I - General Job / Performance Information

Education and Experience
  • Associate Degree and/or Diploma from Respiratory Therapy Program accredited by JRCRTE.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in Respiratory Care.
Environmental / Working Conditions
  • The Core Charge therapist will work an 84hr schedule every pay period.
  • Hours of duty may be irregular to accommodate department and patient requirements.
  • Occupational exposure of high risk blood borne pathogens.
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
  • Effective and pleasant communication with medical staff, nursing, and ancillary departments to assure teamwork approach toward patient care.
Job Description

Under general supervision of the Lead Therapist, the Core Therapist is responsible for:
  • The smooth and efficient operation of his/her shift.
  • Effective communication with the Staff, Lead Therapists, Assistant Director, and Department Director.
  • Daily staff assignments, daily RT procedures, productivity, and availability of equipment and supplies.
  • Knowledge and compliance with UMC policy and procedures.
  • Must exhibit S.I.O.P daily within the hospital.
  • Daily rounding on staff and units.
  • Will be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations
  • Must be a credentialed Registered Respiratory Therapist with the National Board for Respiratory Care or have qualifying equivalent experience.
  • TDH/TMB respiratory care license.
  • BLS/ACLS/PALS/NRP Certified.
  • Level 5 Leadership
  • New Leader Orientation.
Physical Capabilities
  • Work is of medium demand, walking, standing, bending, and lifting a great deal of the time. Frequent bending over patient in bed for several minutes at a time. May occasionally be asked to move objects over 50 pounds. Near visual acuity required. All of these duties must be performed during the course of the shift.
Skills and Abilities
  • Fine motor skills are essential to perform procedures and manage equipment. Maintain proficiency in all therapist activities and equipment. Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in written form.
