What You Will Do

Supports the Office of New Student & Family Programs in delivering orientation, transition, and welcome initiatives for incoming students and families. Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with planning and execution of New Student Orientation, Transfer Student Orientation, and Welcome Weekend programs
  • Support event logistics, including setup, check-in, materials preparation, and breakdown
  • Serve as a front-facing point of contact for student and family questions via phone, email, and in-person interactions
  • Assist with communication outreach, record keeping, and administrative support related to onboarding and transition initiatives
  • Support student leader logistics, including scheduling, training materials, and program coordination
  • Provide general office support and assist with special projects as assigned
  • Work collaboratively to create welcoming, organized, and student-centered transition experiences

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

Bachelors degree required
At least one year experience in student services, event coordination, customer service, or related program support

Preferred Qualifications

Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams) and ability to learn university systems quickly
Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and provide excellent customer service
Ability to lift and move materials up to 25 pounds and assist with event setup/breakdown
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends during peak program periods

The amount of time for which services are needed is not usually predictable and payment for work performed is on an hourly basis and based on actual hours worked. Workdays and hours may vary according to departmental requirements.Extra Help employees do not receive SIUE benefits, holiday pay or paid sick or vacation leave.

Extra Help employees are required by State Universities Civil Service System rules to take a 30-calendar-day break after working 900 hours. At the end of the 30 days, you may begin another 900-hour employment cycle in a new position if available. Working Extra Help will in no way affect any other employment opportunities with SIUE, including your position on and Civil Service register. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment.

Illinois Residency Requirement: Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position.

Illinois residency requires proof of a valid Illinois Drivers License or state of Illinois ID Card. Failure to produce the required documentation within 180 calendar days will result in immediate termination of employment.

The screening process will encompass a criminal background check and, where applicable, other background checks such as a drug screen, verification of employment and education or licensure/certification, reference checks, and/or checks with relevant government registries. Additional Information: SIUE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States and visa sponsorship for this position will not be provided. International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status.
