Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Storage Virtualization Team) based in United Kingdom.
Join a high-performance engineering team building distributed storage infrastructure for a next-generation AI cloud platform.
You’ll design and develop fault-tolerant storage systems capable of delivering extremely low latency and massive throughput at hyperscale.
Your work will sit at the intersection of virtualization, operating systems, networking, and distributed systems.
You’ll tackle challenging engineering problems involving performance-critical I/O paths, replication, consensus, and self-healing infrastructure.
The role offers substantial technical ownership and the opportunity to work on systems where reliability and efficiency are essential.
You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers in an international, fast-moving environment where technical excellence and innovation are highly valued.
This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on the infrastructure powering demanding AI and cloud workloads.
- Design, develop, and maintain distributed, fault-tolerant storage systems for large-scale cloud infrastructure.
- Build and optimize high-performance block and filesystem storage solutions designed for demanding workloads.
- Develop and improve virtualization components involving virtio-blk, virtio-fs, QEMU, vhost-user, and performance-critical I/O paths.
- Work on high-throughput networking between virtual machines and storage systems using TCP and RoCEv2/RDMA.
- Design and implement storage capabilities including replication, consensus, self-healing, and data migration.
- Analyze and optimize system performance to support sub-millisecond latency, millions of IOPS, and extremely high throughput.
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues across software, storage, virtualization, networking, and operating-system layers.
- Write reliable, maintainable, and production-quality code with a strong focus on performance and fault tolerance.
- Contribute to technical design discussions, architecture decisions, code reviews, testing, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with other engineers and technical teams to deliver robust infrastructure at scale.
- Participate in coding interviews and technical evaluations as part of the hiring process.
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally working on complex backend, infrastructure, or distributed systems.
- Strong professional proficiency in C++ and experience using it to build reliable, performance-sensitive software.
- Solid understanding of algorithms and data structures.
- Practical knowledge of operating system internals, particularly I/O, memory management, and scheduling.
- Experience debugging complex software and systems issues across multiple technical layers.
- Ability to design and implement reliable, maintainable, production-quality code.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with an interest in performance optimization and technically challenging infrastructure problems.
- Familiarity with distributed systems, storage, virtualization, networking, or cloud infrastructure is highly valuable.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, international engineering environment.
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
- Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to share knowledge, participate in technical discussions, and contribute to shared engineering goals.
- Comfortable taking ownership of complex technical problems and driving them toward practical solutions.
- Competitive compensation aligned with the seniority and scope of the role.
- Career growth: Opportunities to deepen your expertise in distributed systems, storage, virtualization, networking, and cloud infrastructure.
- Learning opportunities: Work alongside experienced engineers on technically demanding and large-scale systems.
- Technical ownership: Significant autonomy and responsibility in designing and improving critical infrastructure.
- Flexible work environment: Remote-friendly working arrangements within the applicable location framework.
- International environment: Collaborate with talented engineers and technical teams across multiple countries.
- Innovation-focused culture: Work on challenging infrastructure problems supporting advanced AI and cloud workloads.
- Meaningful impact: Contribute directly to highly scalable systems designed for demanding production environments.
- Collaborative culture: Join a team that values engineering excellence, trust, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Future-focused technology: Gain hands-on experience with modern virtualization, high-performance networking, distributed storage, and AI infrastructure.
