Job Description
The purpose of this position is to support the communication development and academic success of students through speech and language services integrated with Catholic values and educational excellence. The Speech and Language Therapist is recognized as a minister of the Church and is responsible for fostering a Christ-centered environment that respects the dignity of every student while supporting their individual learning and communication needs in alignment with the mission of Catholic education.
Essential Duties- Provide speech and language screenings, evaluations, therapy, and progress monitoring for students with communication needs.
- Develop and implement individualized speech and language goals aligned with student learning plans and educational needs.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, administrators, and support staff to support student growth academically, socially, and emotionally.
- Maintain therapy schedules and service delivery models that support student success while minimizing classroom disruption.
- Participate in Student Support Team meetings and assist in developing accommodations and interventions for students.
- Maintain accurate documentation, therapy notes, evaluation reports, and progress reports in compliance with diocesan, state, and federal guidelines.
- Assist teachers in implementing classroom strategies that support speech, language, articulation, fluency, voice, and social communication development.
- Support students in developing confidence, self-advocacy, and communication skills through a compassionate and faith-centered approach.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, recommendations, and strategies for continued growth at home.
- Facilitate referrals for additional outside evaluations or services when appropriate and with proper parental consent.
- Ensure compliance with mandated reporting laws and diocesan child protection policies.
- Utilize therapy materials and practices that are developmentally appropriate and consistent with Catholic values and teachings.
- Promote a positive and inclusive environment that reflects the dignity and worth of every child as a creation of God.
- Collaborate with school staff to support students with diverse learning and communication needs within the educational setting.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with diocesan policy, FERPA, and professional ethical standards.
- Demonstrate and maintain a professional appearance that reflects the dignity and mission of Catholic education, setting a visible standard of excellence and respect for faculty, students, and the wider school community.
- Maintain consistent and reliable attendance, reporting to work on time and adhering to assigned schedules to ensure the safety, supervision, and continuity of care for all students.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and maintain required licensure and certifications.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the principal.
- Demonstrate compassion, patience, and professionalism when working with students and families.
- Build collaborative relationships with teachers, administrators, clergy, parents, and outside professionals.
- Apply evidence-based speech and language intervention strategies in a school setting.
- Demonstrate strong organizational, time management, and documentation skills.
- Communicate effectively and professionally in both oral and written form.
- Work independently with confidence and minimal managerial oversight.
- Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality standards.
- Integrate Catholic values and respect for the dignity of each student into daily interactions and services.
- Support students with a variety of communication disorders and developmental needs.
- Utilize educational technology and data systems effectively to support student progress and compliance requirements.
- Practicing Catholic preferred or commitment to supporting the mission of Catholic education.
- Complete and maintain diocesan safe environment expectations.
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders required.
- Current state licensure and certification as a Speech-Language Pathologist required.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in pediatric or school-based speech-language therapy preferred.
- Knowledge of special education processes, accommodations, and intervention strategies preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience working collaboratively within a school setting preferred.
- Ability to uphold ethical and professional standards consistent with Catholic education and the speech-language pathology profession.
