Job:
Nurse Practitioner (9 month)The Full-Time, 9-month Nurse Practitioner (NP) role provides comprehensive, evidence-based primary care services to enrolled Barnard College students within the Primary Care Health Service (PCHS) during the highest utilization period. The NP role delivers assessment, diagnosis, treatment, preventive services, procedures, and referrals in a high-functioning ambulatory college health setting.This role requires advanced clinical judgment, autonomy within New York State scope-of-practice regulations, and collaborative practice within an interdisciplinary team. The NP contributes to clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, student health clearance oversight, and quality improvement initiatives consistent with federal and state law, New York State public health requirements, and accreditation standards (AAAHC).
The NP reports to the Assistant Vice President of Health & Wellness and collaborates closely with physicians, nursing leadership, behavioral health clinicians, and allied health staff to ensure coordinated, student-centered care.
Job Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Direct Clinical Care
Provide comprehensive primary care services, including evaluation, diagnosis, management, and referral for acute and chronic conditions within an ambulatory college health setting.
Conduct comprehensive physical examinations and complete required medical clearances and documentation.
Deliver preventive care and health screenings in accordance with current evidence-based guidelines and best practices in adolescent and young adult medicine.
Provide comprehensive, student-centered sexual and reproductive health services across the continuum of prevention, counseling, evaluation, and management, consistent with professional standards and scope of practice.
Order, interpret, and follow up on laboratory and diagnostic studies.
Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions within the scope of practice, including contraceptive methods and preventive pharmacologic therapies.
Initiate emergency stabilization procedures as indicated and triage urgent presentations.
Participate in the clinician after-hours on-call rotation (including holiday coverage as assigned).
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity and coordination of care.
Document all clinical encounters in the electronic medical record (EMR), including management of patient portal communications and laboratory bridge oversight in accordance with regulatory and institutional standards.
Support clinical operations, including laboratory oversight, medication management, and infection prevention practices consistent with OSHA and AAAHC standards.
Education, Health Promotion & Patient Engagement
Provide individualized preventive counseling, anticipatory guidance, and health education to support student well-being.
Engage students in shared decision-making and collaborative care planning.
Communicate test results, follow-up recommendations, and referrals through appropriate clinical channels.
Participate in campus-wide health and wellness initiatives and educational programming.
Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold standards of privacy, dignity, and respect.
Deliver trauma-informed, culturally responsive care reflective of best practices in adolescent and young adult medicine.
Student Health Compliance & Immunization Oversight
Review incoming student health forms for completeness and clinical appropriateness.
Evaluate immunization records to ensure compliance with New York State public health mandates and institutional requirements.
Provide clinical follow-up, counseling, and immunization planning for students who are non-compliant or require additional documentation.
Collaborate with nursing leadership and administrative partners to ensure accurate regulatory reporting.
Clinical Quality, Compliance & Professional Standards
Maintain active New York State licensure, NP certification, DEA registration, and NPI.
Practice in accordance with New York State Nurse Practice Act and collaborative practice requirements.
Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and accreditation standards.
Participate in Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives, peer review, and case conferences.
Support adherence to OSHA, infection prevention, public health, and accreditation standards (AAAHC).
Contribute to the development and revision of clinical guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Serve as a clinical resource to colleagues and support the orientation of new personnel.
Engage in continuing education and professional development.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Health & Wellness
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:
Required Qualifications
Current New York State RN license.
Current New York State Nurse Practitioner certification (Primary Care preferred).
Master of Science in Nursing or related graduate degree.
Current DEA registration and NPI number.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Experience with electronic medical records.
Experience with phlebotomy and IV placement.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum two years of ambulatory, emergency, or college health experience
Experience in adolescent/young adult medicine
Women’s health and reproductive procedural experience (IUD, Nexplanon)
Prior experience in college or student health setting
Experience with quality improvement and regulatory compliance initiatives
Experience supporting infection control standards (OSHA, CDC, AAAHC/JCAHO).

|Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,000
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
