Design, analyze, and create fabrication documentation for NEMA 3R Power Distribution Centers (PDCs), including but not limited to structural steel skids, equipment enclosures, platforms, stairs, and support systems. Perform engineering calculations, develop 3D models and fabrication drawings, ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, and provide technical support throughout manufacturing and installation.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Design PDC layouts, assemblies, and mechanical systems to meet customer specifications, project requirements, and industry standards.
· Complete orthographic internal and external projections from general arrangement plan views.
· Create and maintain 3D models using CAD software and generate accurate shop drawings for fabrication and installation.
· Model skid and enclosure assemblies from project layouts and equipment requirements.
· Model skid and enclosure structures and perform engineering calculations to verify structural integrity, equipment support, transportation loads, lifting loads, and code compliance.
· Perform load analyses including dead loads, live loads, equipment loads, wind loads, lifting loads, and transportation loads as applicable.
· Model system thermal loads and calculate HVAC system sizing requirements.
· Design base skids from general arrangement plan views and produce fabrication drawings for sawing, coping, fitting, and welding.
· Design NEMA 3R enclosures from elevation views and produce fabrication drawings for cutting, bending, assembly, and laser-cut nesting.
· Select and specify materials, structural members, fasteners, welds, coatings, hardware, and HVAC components based on design requirements.
· Develop detailed fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and manufacturing documentation for steel structures, platforms, stairs, skids, and enclosure components.
· Generate bills of materials (BOMs) and maintain engineering documentation within company systems.
· Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards, including IBC, IECC, NEC, IMC, OSHA, AISC, AWS, and customer-specific requirements.
· Coordinate with project engineers, electrical engineers, project managers, manufacturing personnel, customers, and approval authorities throughout the design process.
· Participate in design reviews and provide engineering recommendations to improve manufacturability, quality, cost, and schedule.
· Review completed designs for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance prior to release for manufacturing.
· Support fabrication teams by answering technical questions, resolving drawing discrepancies, and implementing engineering revisions during manufacturing and assembly.
