AI Governance Security Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a AI Governance Security Engineer based in the United States.

This role provides the opportunity to shape the future of secure AI adoption within a fast-moving technology environment. As an AI Governance Security Engineer, you will assess emerging AI risks, define security controls, and help organizations deploy AI solutions safely at scale. You will collaborate with AI/ML teams, security engineers, and enterprise stakeholders to establish governance frameworks and technical standards. The position combines cybersecurity expertise, risk management, and hands-on security engineering across modern AI technologies. You will play a key role in identifying vulnerabilities, improving AI security practices, and enabling responsible innovation. This remote opportunity is ideal for a security professional passionate about emerging technologies, threat modeling, and building secure AI ecosystems.

Accountabilities:
  • Conduct security risk assessments across AI governance domains, including generative AI security, agentic AI security, shadow AI detection, and AI gateway or Model Context Protocol governance.
  • Evaluate AI use cases, identify potential exposures, apply risk scoring methodologies, and maintain accurate AI governance risk documentation.
  • Identify security weaknesses in AI deployments, including prompt injection, data leakage, model misuse, and unsafe output handling, while recommending effective mitigation strategies.
  • Assess agentic AI systems for risks related to autonomy, tool access, privilege escalation, and unintended actions, and define appropriate monitoring controls.
  • Analyze shadow AI usage and unauthorized AI implementations, evaluate associated risks, and recommend detection and governance approaches.
  • Evaluate AI security solutions such as AI gateways, CASB/SWG platforms, Model Context Protocol governance tools, and agent monitoring technologies.
  • Contribute to security frameworks, architectural standards, policies, and technical requirements that support responsible AI adoption.
  • Apply cybersecurity expertise across cloud, network, endpoint, and data security domains to support architecture reviews, risk assessments, and security initiatives.
  • Partner with AI/ML teams, engineering groups, and enterprise stakeholders to identify security improvements and drive implementation.
  • Support incident response, detection engineering, and security improvement efforts related to emerging AI technologies.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in security engineering, cybersecurity, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, compliance requirements, and evolving threat landscapes.
  • Hands-on experience with security risk assessment and risk management methodologies, including impact-based prioritization.
  • Working knowledge of modern AI and machine learning systems, including large language models, generative AI, and agentic AI architectures.
  • Experience with core security domains such as cloud, network, endpoint, or data security, with the ability to contribute to architecture reviews and risk assessments.
  • Experience securing AI applications, LLM-based systems, or enterprise generative AI deployments is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with AI security tools and technologies, including AI gateways, Model Context Protocol (MCP), CASB/SWG, DLP solutions, or agent monitoring platforms is a plus.
  • Experience identifying and governing shadow IT or shadow AI usage is preferred.
  • Knowledge of threat modeling techniques applied to AI systems or emerging technologies.
  • Experience contributing to incident response, detection engineering, or purple team activities is beneficial.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.
Benefits:
  • Competitive annual salary range of $98,900 - $228,700, depending on qualifications, experience, and location.
  • Total compensation package that may include base salary, bonus opportunities, and equity awards.
  • Fully remote work flexibility within the United States.
  • Comprehensive benefits package supporting physical, mental, emotional, and financial well-being.
  • Programs designed to support work-life balance and employee growth.
  • Opportunities to work on cutting-edge AI security initiatives and emerging technologies.
  • Collaborative, innovation-driven workplace culture with opportunities for professional development.
  • Supportive environment focused on career advancement, meaningful impact, and continuous learning.
