About the Role:

As a PLC Technician in the durable goods manufacturing sector, you will play a critical role in ensuring the seamless operation and maintenance of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) that control manufacturing equipment and processes. Your expertise will directly impact production efficiency, product quality, and workplace safety by diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing PLC systems. You will collaborate closely with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to implement system upgrades and optimize automation processes. This role demands a proactive approach to identifying potential issues before they cause downtime, thereby supporting continuous manufacturing operations. Ultimately, your work will contribute to the reliability and advancement of manufacturing technology within the organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of a recognized technical diploma or certificate in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, or a related field.
  • Proven experience working with PLC programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics, control systems, and industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, or Profibus.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and PLC ladder logic programs.
  • Valid work authorization to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification from recognized bodies such as the International Society of Automation (ISA) or equivalent.
  • Experience with specific PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Schneider Electric.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) programming.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and regulations applicable to manufacturing automation.
  • Experience in continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, program, and maintain PLC systems and related automation equipment to support manufacturing operations.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software issues in PLC-controlled machinery to minimize production interruptions.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on PLC systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement system upgrades, modifications, and process improvements.
  • Document all maintenance activities, system configurations, and troubleshooting procedures accurately for future reference and compliance.
