Registered Nurse in Phoenix, Arizona at Mountain View Headache and Spine Institute PLLC

The Pain Management Infusion RN provides safe, compassionate, and evidence-informed nursing care to patients receiving provider-ordered infusion therapy for pain and related conditions. The RN completes clinical assessments, administers medications within the RN scope of practice, continuously monitors patient response, recognizes and responds to changes in condition, maintains accurate documentation, and supports a calm and patient-centered treatment environment. All care is delivered in accordance with applicable law, professional standards, provider orders, and organizational policies and protocols. Patient Assessment and Care

• Complete and document pre-infusion nursing assessments, including health history updates, medication reconciliation, allergies, baseline vital signs, pain assessment, fall risk, and other required screenings.
• Verify that provider orders, required consents, treatment criteria, and relevant clinical information are complete before initiating therapy.
• Confirm patient identity using approved identifiers and perform required medication safety checks before administration.
• Establish and maintain peripheral intravenous access; assess the site throughout treatment and discontinue access safely after therapy.
• Provide education regarding the treatment process, expected effects, potential adverse reactions, post-treatment precautions, and follow-up instructions.
• Promote patient dignity, privacy, comfort, safety, and emotional support throughout the visit.

Infusion Administration and Monitoring

• Prepare, administer, titrate, and discontinue provider-ordered infusion medications, which may include ketamine, lidocaine, hydration, and other therapies authorized by organizational policy and the RN's demonstrated competency.
• Independently verify medication, dose, route, rate, compatibility, expiration, and pump programming as required by policy; obtain a second verification when required.
• Monitor and document vital signs, pain level, level of consciousness, respiratory and cardiovascular status, treatment response, and other ordered parameters at required intervals.
• Recognize adverse reactions or clinical deterioration; stop or adjust therapy when authorized, initiate emergency protocols, notify the provider, and document interventions and outcomes.
• Assess readiness for discharge using established criteria and ensure the patient has required instructions, transportation, and follow-up arrangements.
• Maintain accurate medication inventory, controlled-substance accountability, wasting documentation, and chain-of-custody practices when applicable.

Clinical Operations and Compliance

• Document assessments, medication administration, monitoring, patient education, communications, and outcomes accurately and timely in the electronic health record.
• Follow infection prevention, hand-hygiene, aseptic technique, sharps safety, hazardous medication, and exposure-control requirements.
• Perform safety checks of infusion pumps, oxygen, suction, emergency supplies, and monitoring equipment; immediately report deficiencies.
• Maintain treatment rooms, medication areas, and supplies in a clean, organized, secure, and inspection-ready condition.
• Participate in competency validation, quality-improvement activities, chart audits, incident reporting, emergency drills, and required education.
• Coordinate with providers, medical assistants, front-office staff, pharmacies, and other team members to support continuity of care and efficient patient flow.
• Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, OSHA, organizational policies, and all applicable professional and regulatory standards.
• Perform other duties within the RN scope of practice as assigned.

Professional Expectations

• Maintain an active and unrestricted Arizona Registered Nurse license, required certifications, continuing education, and competency requirements as a condition of employment, and promptly disclose any restriction or change in status.
• Perform services within the scope of employment and assigned duties. The Practice maintains professional liability coverage for services performed within the scope of employment, subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable policy.
• Maintain dependable attendance and timely communication regarding availability, schedule changes, or potential coverage concerns.
• Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, teamwork, cultural sensitivity, and commitment to patient safety.
• Do not perform any task beyond demonstrated competency, authorized scope of practice, provider orders, or organizational policy.

• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing or a valid multistate privilege permitting practice in Arizona.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing education program.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare professionals.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification, or ability to obtain before independently providing infusion care, as required by company policy.
• At least one year of recent RN experience with infusion therapy, emergency care, critical care, PACU, procedural nursing, pain management, or a comparable setting.
• Demonstrated competency in peripheral IV insertion, medication administration, infusion-pump operation, patient monitoring, and emergency response.
• Ability to complete required background screening, health clearances, and competency requirements.
