Job Description

Senior Underwriter (Homeowners & Condo Insurance)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Underwriter (Homeowners & Condo Insurance) based in the United States.

This is a senior underwriting opportunity focused on evaluating complex homeowners and condominium property risks.
You’ll apply deep P&C expertise to make thoughtful coverage, eligibility, and pricing decisions that support profitable portfolio growth.
The role combines underwriting judgment with data, analytics, automation, and emerging insurance technologies.
You’ll collaborate closely with product, actuarial, claims, legal, data, and technology teams to shape underwriting strategy and improve processes.
The position also offers an opportunity to influence evolving underwriting guidelines, appetite, and digital workflows.
As a trusted technical resource, you’ll help coach less-experienced underwriters and promote consistent, high-quality risk decisions.
This is a fully virtual role suited to an experienced insurance professional interested in both underwriting excellence and the future of insurance technology.

Accountabilities
  • Evaluate and underwrite complex new and renewal homeowners and condo submissions, reviewing property characteristics, requested coverage, eligibility, prior losses, risk exposures, and relevant market considerations.
  • Determine risk eligibility and appropriate coverage terms while supporting pricing decisions that balance customer needs with portfolio profitability.
  • Apply sound underwriting judgment alongside data, analytics, automated workflows, AI-assisted insights, digital platforms, and other emerging technologies to improve risk assessment and decision quality.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and identify trends that may require adjustments to underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, rules, or processes.
  • Partner with product, technology, data, actuarial, claims, legal, and other teams on underwriting strategy, product development, process improvement, and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor for less-experienced underwriters, sharing expertise and providing guidance on complex risks and underwriting decisions.
  • Build productive relationships with internal stakeholders, agents, brokers, business partners, and support teams.
  • Clearly communicate underwriting decisions, requirements, risk considerations, and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of P&C underwriting experience.
  • Active Property & Casualty insurance license.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating and underwriting complex property risks, ideally including homeowners, condominium, personal-lines property, commercial property, or comparable products.
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, risk evaluation, eligibility criteria, coverage considerations, and portfolio performance.
  • Ability to interpret data and analytics and use them to support informed underwriting decisions.
  • Experience working with technology-enabled underwriting environments, such as automated workflows, predictive analytics, AI-assisted insights, digital underwriting platforms, or rules-based decision systems.
  • Strong analytical judgment and attention to detail, with the ability to balance customer needs, risk quality, and business objectives.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical, business, and insurance functions.
  • Ability and willingness to coach colleagues and contribute to consistent underwriting practices.
  • AINS, CPCU, or ARM designation is preferred.
  • Comfortable working independently in a fully virtual office environment.
Benefits
  • Competitive annual salary range of $64,900–$108,200, with actual compensation determined by factors including experience, qualifications, and work location.
  • Fully virtual/remote working environment.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage beginning on day one.
  • 401(k) plan with a 6% company match.
  • Paid time off, holidays, and a volunteer day.
  • Employee wellness and mental health resources.
  • Opportunities to contribute to underwriting modernization, digital transformation, and emerging insurance technology initiatives.
  • Professional growth opportunities within a broad and evolving insurance environment.
  • No regular travel required, with limited opportunities to attend selected conferences or business events.
