Job Description
The Food Service Designer is responsible for preparing detailed technical drawings, layouts, and design documentation for commercial foodservice facilities, including restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and institutional kitchens. This role collaborates with contract sales, territory sales, owners, operators, architects, engineers, equipment suppliers, general contractors and project managers to develop accurate plans that support efficient kitchen operations and comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements. The ideal individual will be personable, outgoing, detail-oriented, and an independent worker. A strong background in Revit, BIM, and Bluebeam is highly sought after. Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed food service equipment plans, kitchen layouts, utility drawings, and installation documents using CAD software.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, KCL, Adobe, Microsoft Office applications and email.
- May be versed in other design programs: Sketch-up, Photoshop, etc.
- Demonstrated ability with Microsoft Office programs (especially PowerPoint design)
- Experience with G-Suite applications (e.g., Gmail, Google Drive, Google Slides, etc.)
- Confer with sales staff and customers to determine needs.
- Space Programming and Planning – develop kitchen, seating, and restroom layouts following building, ADA, and health codes.
- Develop custom stainless designs and details.
- Review details of spec sheets & shop drawings for utility information.
- Assist with reviewing shop drawings.
- Verbal and written communication with architects, engineers, vendors, and customers.
- Internal and customer meetings to review plans and changes.
- Prioritizing workload.
- Stay current with kitchen product knowledge through Rep Meetings and Presentations.
- Track billable and non-billable hours.
- Periodically archive electronic and hard-copy files.
- Answer customer questions regarding sizes of troughs, custom tables, etc.
- Participate in project coordination meetings with consultants, contractors, and clients.
- Conduct site visits and field measurements as required.
Required Qualifications
- Degree/Certification in Design and or CAD Drafter or equivalent work experience
- Ability to work well independently or cross-functionally with a diverse team in a way that supports and builds company culture, while aiding in the success of the team.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Revit or BIM software preferred.
- Knowledge of commercial kitchen and foodservice equipment layouts.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings and drafting standards.
- Ability to interpret architectural and engineering documents.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in foodservice consulting, commercial kitchen design, restaurant development, or hospitality projects.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as NSF requirements and foodservice design best practices.
- Knowledge of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) coordination.
- Preferred experience with VR or rendering programs such as Twin Motion
- Experience with 3D modeling and BIM coordination.

- Ability to visit construction sites and existing facilities as needed.
- Occasional travel may be required.

- Minimize drawing errors and revisions caused by coordination issues.
- Support successful project execution from concept through installation.
- Maintain compliance with applicable codes and client standards.
