AML/KYC Senior Specialist

Salary Range: $65,000–$80,000 annually

Position Summary

New Direction Trust Company is seeking an experienced AML/KYC Senior Specialist to strengthen our compliance program and support the continued growth of our organization.

This position plays an important role in protecting the company and its clients by conducting transaction monitoring, investigating unusual activity, completing customer due diligence, and supporting regulatory reporting requirements. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical judgment, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to recognize risk within complex financial activity.

The AML/KYC Senior Specialist will work closely with our existing AML team and other business partners to ensure reviews are completed thoroughly, accurately, and within established timelines. This individual will also provide team coverage as needed, contribute to process improvements, and share their knowledge with developing compliance professionals.

What You’ll DoTransaction Monitoring and Investigations
  • Review and analyze financial transactions to identify unusual or potentially suspicious activity.
  • Conduct timely, well-documented investigations using internal systems, client records, and other available resources.
  • Identify patterns, inconsistencies, and risk indicators requiring further review or escalation.
  • Maintain clear and complete documentation supporting investigative conclusions.
  • Escalate significant concerns in accordance with established procedures.
Unusual and Suspicious Activity Reporting
  • Review and process internal Unusual Activity Reports (UARs) accurately and within established timelines.
  • Conduct follow-up research and request additional information when needed.
  • Assist with the preparation, review, and filing of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) in accordance with applicable requirements and internal procedures.
  • Support ongoing monitoring and follow-up reviews related to previously identified activity.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of AML investigations and regulatory filings.
Customer Due Diligence
  • Perform Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) reviews for new and existing clients.
  • Review client profiles, account activity, source-of-funds information, ownership structures, and other risk factors.
  • Support risk-rating decisions and periodic reviews based on established standards.
  • Identify missing, inconsistent, or potentially concerning information and coordinate appropriate follow-up.
  • Assist with higher-risk and complex account reviews.
New Account and Business Support
  • Support the compliance-related aspects of new account onboarding.
  • Partner with New Accounts and other internal teams to resolve documentation or due diligence concerns.
  • Provide guidance regarding AML/KYC requirements while maintaining appropriate independence and sound judgment.
  • Balance new-account support with transaction monitoring and investigative priorities based on departmental needs.
Program Support and Collaboration
  • Follow applicable laws, regulatory guidance, and internal AML/KYC policies and procedures.
  • Provide dependable coverage during team member absences and periods of increased volume.
  • Assist with regulatory examinations, audits, quality-control reviews, and special compliance projects.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, improve procedures, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Share knowledge and provide support to team members developing their AML expertise or pursuing professional certifications.
  • Contribute to a strong, consistent, and collaborative culture of compliance.
What We’re Looking ForRequired Qualifications
  • Active Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) certification.
  • At least two years of AML, KYC, financial-crimes, or related compliance experience within financial services or a comparable regulated industry.
  • Experience conducting transaction monitoring, unusual-activity investigations, and CDD or EDD reviews.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to make sound, risk-based decisions and clearly document the reasoning behind them.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while completing thorough and timely reviews.
  • Proficiency with compliance-monitoring tools, financial transaction systems, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, criminal justice, business, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
  • Experience preparing or supporting SAR filings and other regulatory reporting.
  • Experience with trust company operations, retirement accounts, alternative assets, or new-account onboarding.
  • Familiarity with complex ownership structures, entity accounts, and source-of-funds analysis.
  • Experience supporting audits, examinations, or compliance quality-assurance reviews.
