Job Description

Position Description: The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing daily transportation and fleet maintenance operations to ensure safe, efficient, compliant, and cost-effective service delivery. This role provides leadership to drivers, yard personnel, and maintenance shop staff while ensuring equipment readiness, operational performance, and employee engagement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operations Management
Direct and oversee daily terminal operations, yard management, and transportation activities.
Ensure customer service expectations and operational KPIs are consistently achieved.
Monitor labor, equipment utilization, fuel consumption, and operational costs to maximize efficiency.
Develop and implement operational processes, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensure compliance with company policies, DOT regulations, OSHA requirements, and other applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Investigate operational issues and implement corrective actions to improve service and productivity.
Manage staffing levels and workforce scheduling to meet operational demands.
Conduct regular operational meetings and communicate company objectives to employees.
Support recruiting, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management of operations personnel.
Fleet & Maintenance Shop Management
Oversee all maintenance shop activities, including preventive maintenance programs, repairs, inspections, and regulatory compliance.
Ensure fleet equipment is maintained in a safe, roadworthy condition and meets all DOT requirements.
Supervise Mechanics and vendors as applicable.
Monitor equipment downtime and implement strategies to maximize fleet availability and utilization.
Review maintenance work orders, repair costs, parts inventory, and vendor invoices for accuracy and cost control.
Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are completed on time and documented appropriately.
Manage relationships with outside repair vendors, parts suppliers, and service providers.
Track maintenance KPIs, including PM compliance, breakdown frequency, road calls, equipment availability, and repair costs.
Ensure proper inventory controls are maintained for parts, tools, and shop supplies.
Lead root-cause investigations for recurring mechanical failures and implement corrective actions.
