OUPEA is seeking to recruit a high caliber, results oriented, experienced, and highly skilled professional for the position of Assistant Bussiness Advisor- Nairobi region.

About the role

The Assistant Education Business Advisor will be responsible for driving revenue growth, expanding market share, and deepening customer relationships within Nairobi. The role requires a proactive, customer-centric approach to school engagement, distributors management, and pipeline development, in alignment with OUPEA’s commercial objectives and Code of Conduct.

The appointed individual will be reporting to the Regional Sales Manager-Eastern Block.

Key Accountabilities:

1. Sales budget attainment

  • Develop and execute a structured Nairobi County territory plan and call cycle in alignment with the Regional Sales Manager (RSM), ensuring comprehensive school coverage across pre-primary, primary, and secondary segments.
  • Build and sustain a robust sales pipeline across public and private schools, with a focus on promoting local curriculum solutions.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the assigned territory to drive consistent revenue growth.

2. Field Activity & Territory Coverage

  • Maintain a structured route plan and daily school visits aligned to priority schools and key decision-makers.
  • Conduct a minimum of four (4) high-quality school visits per day, encompassing sales presentations, curriculum consultations, and adoption discussions.
  • Ensure timely documentation of visit outcomes, including adoption commitments and order records, through salesforce

3. Key Account Management

  • Identify, develop, and manage relationships with platinum schools, group of schools, and strategic education partners within the territory.
  • Conduct regular engagement sessions, adoption reviews, and joint activity planning with key accounts.
  • Coordinate internally to resolve customer issues promptly and protect account retention.

4. Channel & Distributor Management

  • Manage and develop productive relationships with bookshops and distributors; conduct regular performance reviews and establish joint business plans.
  • Drive product availability, in-store visibility, sellout initiatives, and promotions within the channel.
  • Improve channel forecasting accuracy through collaborative planning and operational alignment with trade partners.

5. Debt Management & Collections

  • Adhere to OUPEA credit policies and work collaboratively with the Finance team and customers to ensure timely invoice settlement.
  • Monitor account aging regularly; escalate credit risks proactively and negotiate payment plans where appropriate.
  • Support the resolution of invoice disputes, returns, and claims in a timely and professional manner.

6. CRM Utilisation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the salesforce, including visit logs, decision-maker maps, adoption status, and agreed next steps.
  • Submit weekly activity reports and monthly pipeline forecasts to the RSM within stipulated deadlines.
  • Leverage customer data and market insights to inform tailored proposals, upselling, and cross-selling strategies.
  • Monitor procurement cycles, decision timelines, and competitor activity; recommend counter-strategies as appropriate.#

7. Ethics, Compliance & Brand Representation

  • Uphold the OUPEA Code of Conduct and ethical selling standards in all interactions with schools, booksellers, and trade partners.
  • Represent the OUPEA brand with professionalism and integrity at all school visits, trade engagements, and external events.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree/ higher Diploma in Education, Sales, or Marketing.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in educational sales. Teaching experience in a primary or secondary institution will be an added advantage.
  • Strong understanding of customer segmentation and go-to-market strategies.
  • Strong ethical standards and ability to represent OUPEA professionally.
  • High proficiency in written and spoken English; Kiswahili.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple stakeholders/projects simultaneously.
