Mill Laborer - 2nd Shift in Blue Island, Illinois at Blue Island Recycling, LLC

Blue Island Recycling, LLC is seeking a dependable and hardworking Mill Laborer to join our second shift team at our scrap metal recycling and processing facility in Blue Island, Illinois.

This is a hands on general labor position supporting the operation of our large industrial hammer mill and shredder used to process automobiles and other scrap metal.

The Mill Laborer will work as part of the mill crew and assist with general labor, material handling, cleanup, housekeeping, and other tasks necessary to support safe and efficient mill operations.

Fluent spoken Spanish is required because this position must communicate directly with a coworker who speaks only Spanish to receive instructions, ask questions, coordinate work, and address safety concerns. Bilingual ability in English and Spanish is preferred but is not required.

We are looking for someone who is dependable, safety minded, comfortable performing physically demanding work, and able to work in a fast paced industrial environment around heavy machinery, trucks, scrap metal, dirt, dust, grease, and noise.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform general labor duties in support of hammer mill and shredder operations

Assist mill personnel with day to day operational tasks as directed
Communicate directly in Spanish regarding work assignments, workflow, equipment conditions, and safety concerns.

Assist with handling, moving, sorting, and cleaning up material in designated work areas

Remove loose material, debris, and scrap from designated areas

Perform routine housekeeping and cleanup around mill work areas

Keep walkways and designated work areas clean and free of unnecessary debris

Assist with general mill and yard related labor as needed

Use hand tools, brooms, shovels, and other basic tools and equipment as assigned

Follow instructions from supervisors and experienced mill personnel

Follow all company safety procedures and remain alert to moving equipment, machinery, and other hazards

Wear required personal protective equipment

Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment problems, or other concerns to a supervisor

Assist other departments or perform other general labor duties as needed

Perform other duties as assigned by management

QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience in a scrap yard, recycling facility, manufacturing facility, construction site, or other industrial environment is preferred but not required

Previous general labor or physically demanding work experience is preferred

Must be dependable and maintain reliable attendance

Must be able to follow instructions and work safely as part of a team

Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds as required to perform job duties

Must be able to perform physically demanding work throughout the scheduled shift, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying

Must be comfortable working around large industrial machinery, heavy equipment, trucks, and scrap metal

Must be comfortable working in an environment that may include dirt, dust, grease, noise, and changing weather conditions

Must be able to reliably work the full scheduled shift

Must be fluent in spoken Spanish to communicate effectively about work instructions, coordination, and safety.
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred but is not required

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is located at an active scrap metal recycling and processing facility.

Employees work around heavy machinery, trucks, mobile equipment, scrap metal, dirt, dust, grease, noise, and changing weather conditions.

This is a hands on and physically demanding position. Applicants should expect to be on their feet for extended periods, perform repetitive physical tasks, lift and carry materials weighing at least 50 pounds, and work in areas that may be dirty, dusty, noisy, or exposed to changing weather conditions.

Applicants must be comfortable working around active industrial equipment and following established safety procedures at all times.

SCHEDULE

Monday through Friday

2:00 PM to 2:00 AM

Weekends off

This is a full time second shift position. Applicants must be able to reliably work the entire scheduled shift.
