  • Salary Range $49,000 to $55,000 annually ($27-$31/hour). This is a non-exempt position paid on a 12 month cycle.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Landscaping and maintenance: Responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, and long-range plans for the grounds. Mowing, trimming, weeding, seeding, raking leaves, and planting flowers, shrubs, and trees.
  • Equipment operation: Using hand tools and operating powered equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers,
  • Irrigation system maintenance: Performing routine checks, repairs, and winterization of sprinkler and irrigation systems.
  • Property cleanup: Maintain parking lots and concrete surfaces on campus, removing litter, debris, and trash from grounds, parking lots, and walkways.
  • Seasonal tasks: Conducting snow and ice removal during winter and preparing outdoor areas for varying weather conditions. Prioritize students, faculty and staff safety by monitoring snow and ice buildup by spreading ice melt on public passageways.
  • Backup to the Facilities Manager and Day Porter (custodian)
  • Assist with the set-up and tear down of events both inside and outside on the grounds
  • Organize the maintenance and repair of all gardening equipment, landscape, furnishings, signage and some building exterior

Working Environment:

  • The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling;
  • Some climbing and balancing;
  • Significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.
  • Generally the job requires 25% sitting, 50% walking, and 25% standing.
  • The job is performed with some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift items or materials a minimum of 50 lbs.

• Ability to perform manual labor, including regular bending, twisting, stooping and reaching as needed.

• Climb and use ladders up to 12 ft.

• Ability to work outdoors and/or in unairconditioned buildings, as required.

• Perform work duties/responsibilities for extended periods of time (approximately 8 hours/day) even during inclement weather.

Requirements:
  • Previous experience and knowledge with plant care, irrigation systems, and grounds maintenance practices.
  • Ability to operate and maintain landscaping equipment.
  • Organizational and time-management skills. Ability to balance multiple priorities and requests.
  • Highly motivated to maintain the grounds/campus at a pristine level.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as a lead, with good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to advise on planting and grounds logistics.
  • Initiative to tackle projects that require immediate attention.
  • Willingness to assist with campus security.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
