JOB DESCRIPTION:

Summary/Objective

Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) position is to implement NYAB's Supplier Quality Assurance Program. This includes supplier rating/performance reporting, establishing Supplier Quality flowdowns, evaluating the supplier’s quality systems, performing product and process validations on the supplied product, evaluating non-conforming products, and implementing corrective actions. Also responsible for directing all commodity team supplier quality efforts to ensure the highest quality standard for purchased materials received at NYAB. Additionally, to support supplier value engineering efforts to enhance supplier cost reductions, producibility improvements, and reduce the cost of supplier quality.

Essential Functions

1. Implement and maintain a complete Supplier Quality Assurance Program with key strategic suppliers to establish the highest quality standard for materials.
2. Act as the technical interface, communicating engineering flow downs to suppliers.
3. Manage quality activities during the product realization phase.
4. Review supplier manufacturing processes, identifying risks and opportunities for improvement.
5. Improve purchased product quality through the APQP process with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
6. Review drawings and specifications, develop inspection/test plans based on product design and functional requirements.
7. Review and approve Supplier PPAP documents, including PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA and Cp/ Cpk reports.
8. Evaluate independent test results and inspection reports, including engineering test plans and failure analysis reports.
9. Evaluate Nonconformances, Notify supplier of defects and deviations, lead containment effort and coordinate Supplier corrective action requests (SCAR).
10. Use statistical tools (Six Sigma, SPC, DOE) to analyze data, make acceptance decisions, and improve process capability.
11. Utilize SAP QM reporting tool for supplier management, including running queries and analyzing data.
12. Mentor quality personnel on quality tools and inspection/measuring equipment (e.g., CMM, micrometers, calipers, gauges).
13. Monitor Supplier performance in terms of KPIs (PPM, COPQ etc.) and coordinate suitable initiatives to meet or exceed quality metrics.
14. Support quality improvement projects (Six Sigma, cost reduction, defect elimination) with strong organizational skills.
15. Attend Daily Shop Floor mgmt. meetings and Department functional meetings and provide timely responses to escalations.
16. Adhere to the Health, Safety and Environmental Management System. Take responsibility for those aspects of the system over which they have control.
17. Actively participate and support commodity team activities.
18. Must understand and adhere to all relevant statutory or regulatory compliance obligations.
19. Must understand, support, and adhere to the Integrated Management System policies, procedures, and instructions.
20. Must understand and support relevant key performance indicators (KPIs) as defined in the goal tree.

Skills and Competencies

6. Knowledge of the supplier quality assurance processes including APQP/ PPAP, PFMEA & Control plan development, MSA, SPC etc.
7. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
8. Familiar with various manufacturing processes associated with purchase material requirements.
9. Experience with Drawing / blueprint, Technical Specifications interpretation and G,D&T.
10. Knowledge of Measurement principles, limits of metrology, hands-on experience with measuring equipment and measurement techniques.
11. Coordinate PFMEA and Control plan development.
12. Coordinate 8D process to root cause analyses and corrective actions utilizing various quality tools e.g. Ishikawa, 5Why techniques etc.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

The employee will be required to perform duties on a computer terminal. The employee may be exposed to shop floor conditions, i.e., noise, heat, cold, dust/dirt, etc.

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of an office work environment position.

Required Education and Experience

1. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or other related Engineering
2. Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in Quality Engineering/ industrial engineering experience (Supplier Quality preferred).
3. Automotive / Transportation industry background (Preferred).
