Fabrication & Facilities Manager
Job Summary:
Joseph Machine Company is seeking a Fabrication & Facilities Manager to lead our internal welding/fabrication operation while owning the maintenance, reliability, and continuous improvement of our facilities, utilities, grounds, and building infrastructure.
On the Fabrication side, this position is responsible for the daily operation of the Weld Shop, including scheduling, work orders, material requirements, employee priorities, throughput, quality, and safety.
On the Facilities side, this position is a hands-on individual contributor responsible for maintaining JMC’s buildings, grounds, utilities, and infrastructure while coordinating contractors and outside service providers when specialized support is required.
Primary Responsibilities:
Fabrication Operations:
• Own the daily operation, schedule, and performance of the Weld Shop.
• Create, release, and manage fabrication work orders based on production requirements.
• Establish daily and weekly priorities and ensure fabricated components are completed by required need dates.
• Determine material requirements and order steel, tubing, plate, and other fabrication materials.
• Coordinate material availability and outsourced services with Supply Chain.
• Assign and prioritize work based on employee skills, workload, and production requirements.
• Monitor daily throughput, identify schedule risks, and develop recovery plans when work falls behind.
• Ensure employees have the drawings, materials, tooling, and information needed to complete their work.
• Ensure fabricated components meet engineering drawings, specifications, and JMC quality standards.
• Monitor and reduce fabrication scrap, rework, and downstream quality issues.
• Lead, coach, and hold Weld Shop employees accountable for safety, quality, productivity, attendance, and workplace expectations.
• Drive improvements in workflow, fixtures, tooling, material handling, cycle time, organization, and 5S.
Facilities Operations & Maintenance:
• Own and personally perform maintenance and repairs for company buildings, grounds, utilities, and infrastructure.
• Develop and execute preventive maintenance programs for facility systems and support equipment.
• Maintain HVAC, electrical distribution, compressed air, plumbing, lighting, roofing, fire protection, security, cranes, generators, and other facility systems.
• Respond quickly to facility emergencies to minimize production downtime.
• Schedule and prioritize facility maintenance activities and work orders.
• Maintain company grounds and oversee seasonal property requirements, including after-hours support when necessary.
• Personally oversee scrap organization, removal, and related initiatives.
• Maintain critical facility spare parts and maintenance supplies.
• Skid machinery and equipment for shipment as required.
Facility Projects & Vendor Management:
• Plan and manage facility improvement, renovation, layout, and expansion projects.
• Coordinate contractors, vendors, utility companies, and outside service providers.
• Obtain and review proposals and manage project cost, schedule, and quality expectations.
• Support equipment installations, moves, and required utility or infrastructure modifications.
• Determine when maintenance work should be performed internally or outsourced based on capability, safety, cost, and urgency.
• Recommend facility and equipment investments that improve safety, reliability, capacity, and operating efficiency.
Safety & Compliance:
• Maintain a safe working environment throughout the Weld Shop and company facilities.
• Ensure employees follow established safety procedures and required PPE expectations.
• Address unsafe conditions and behaviors promptly.
• Support compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, fire code, and building requirements.
• Coordinate facility inspections, permits, documentation, and corrective actions.
• Partner with Human Resources, Safety, and company leadership on workplace safety initiatives.
Cost & Continuous Improvement:
• Monitor fabrication material usage, labor efficiency, scrap, rework, and operating costs.
• Monitor facility maintenance expenses, utility consumption, and contractor costs.
• Identify opportunities to reduce manufacturing and facility operating costs.
• Improve preventive maintenance compliance and reduce facility-related downtime.
• Drive Lean, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives across Fabrication and Facilities.
• Use practical problem solving to improve safety, quality, productivity, reliability, and cost.

Qualifications:
• 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, fabrication, facilities maintenance, or a related industrial environment.
• Previous leadership experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment preferred.
• Strong understanding of welding and fabrication processes.
• Experience scheduling production work, creating work orders, and managing competing priorities.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and fabrication requirements.
• Working knowledge of industrial facility systems including electrical, HVAC, compressed air, plumbing, and general building maintenance.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting ability.
• Experience coordinating contractors and outside service providers.
• Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability and willingness to personally perform facility maintenance and repair work.
• Comfortable responding to emergency or after-hours facility needs when required.
Role Ownership:
Fabrication: Weld Shop schedule, work orders, material requirements, daily priorities, employee performance, throughput, quality, safety, scrap/rework, and continuous improvement.
Facilities: Buildings, grounds, utilities, preventive maintenance, repairs, facility reliability, contractors, facility projects, scrap initiatives, safety/compliance, maintenance spending, and after-hours facility support.
The successful Fabrication & Facilities Manager will be comfortable leading people and production in the Weld Shop while remaining hands-on with the maintenance and facility needs of a growing manufacturing company.
