Position Title: Senior Communications Specialist

Reporting to: Vice President, Foundation Development and External Relations

Location: On-site (San Diego- Mira Mesa area)

Employment: Full-Time

Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000

(Compensation may vary based on related skills, experience, and relevant key attributes)

Job Overview

Reporting to the Vice President, Foundation Development and External Relations, the Senior Communications Specialist will support and advance n-Lorem’s presence across social media, website, podcast, and partner channels. This role will lead the day-to-day execution of digital communications, including content development, multimedia creation, social media management, website updates, podcast coordination and promotion, and development of sponsor and partner materials. The specialist will implement integrated campaigns, translate complex scientific and organizational information into clear and engaging content, monitor digital performance, and provide insights and recommendations to strengthen audience engagement and reach. Working collaboratively across Communications, Fundraising, Scientific, and Patient Engagement teams, this role will independently manage digital projects and support events, conferences, fundraising initiatives, and other organizational priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Social Media & Digital Execution

• Manage day-to-day digital communications across social media platforms including LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Instagram, Facebook,

and YouTube.

• Draft, edit, and distribute press releases in alignment with organizational priorities.

• Develop engaging platform-appropriate content (copy, graphics, short-form video) that aligns with leadership-driven

messaging and strategy.

• Implement multi-channel campaigns designed by the Communications team.

• Engage with followers, monitor conversations, and escalate issues when needed.

• Identify appropriate measures, track and produce monthly performance insights with recommendations.

• Stay current on social media trends and platform changes, and recommend opportunities to improve audience engagement

and reach.

• Maintain content calendars that support consistent and timely publishing across appropriate channels.

Content Development

• Serve as a primary writer and editor for digital communications, including social media, website content, campaigns, event

materials, and organizational announcements.

• Write clear, compelling, accurate content while maintaining a consistent organizational voice and tone.

• Edit and proofread content for grammar, clarity, accuracy, style, accessibility, and brand consistency.

• Translate complex scientific concepts into accessible and engaging digital content for patients, families, advocates, donors,

partners, and the broader public.

• Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to gather information, identify compelling stories, and develop content.

• Create compelling digital assets, including infographics, reels, animated slides, thumbnails, and promotional graphics.

• Develop content packages and storytelling assets for internal teams, events, and sponsorship efforts.

Website Management

• Manage ongoing updates to website pages, news items, events, and program content.

• Coordinate with external developers on technical improvements, layout updates, or functionality issues.

• Identify opportunities to improve website content, structure, and user experience.

• Ensure content accuracy, SEO optimization, and consistency with brand guidelines.

Podcast Management

• Manage logistics: scheduling interviews, coordinating guest communications, and aligning with production timelines.

• Work with production staff to prepare, edit, and finalize episodes.

• Develop promotional materials such as snippets, thumbnails, short clips, and cross-platform campaigns.

• Provide input on episode planning and manage episode release schedules to maximize audience impact.

Sponsor & Partner Support

• Develop and update sponsor decks, one-page materials, and digital assets.

• Track deliverables for sponsor visibility and ensure assets are accurate and delivered on schedule.

• Prepare promotional tools for partners and conferences.

Analytics & Optimization

• Monitor social media, website, and podcast metrics to evaluate performance and effectiveness.

• Recommend refinements to boost audience growth, engagement, and content quality.

• Maintain organized digital libraries and documentation.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with Communications, Fundraising, Scientific, and Patient Engagement teams.

• Independently manage assigned digital projects from planning through execution.

• Support digital components of events, conferences, and campaigns.

• Contribute to special initiatives requiring digital expertise.

Requirements:

Key Requirements

• U.S. work authorization without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.

• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, digital media, journalism, or related field.

• 3-5 years of professional experience in communications, content marketing, journalism, public relations or related field

(healthcare, science or advocacy sector preferred).

• Exceptional writing and editorial skills with demonstrated ability to produce high-quality digital content (portfolio requested).

• Graphic design proficiency with an eye for layout, typography, and visual storytelling.

• Proficiency with Canva or similar software.

• Experience managing social media channels with measurable growth outcomes.

• Experience with web CMS platforms (WordPress or equivalent).

• Basic understanding of web coding (HTML and JavaScript) or a strong willingness to learn.

• Working knowledge of SEO, Google Analytics 4, email marketing tools and social scheduling platforms (e.g. Hootsuite, Buffer)

preferred.

• Experience developing digital sponsor or event materials preferred.
