Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Specialist Backend Developer based in Brazil.
As a Specialist Backend Developer, you will lead some of the most technically demanding evolutions of a critical financial platform, focusing on reliability, consistency, scalability, and secure transaction processing. You will design solutions for complex systems involving money movement, regulated integrations, reconciliation, and high-risk operational flows. The role combines deep backend engineering with architectural decision-making, technical influence, incident resolution, and continuous improvement. You will establish robust integration contracts, testing strategies, observability practices, and technical standards while remaining close to implementation. You will also help shape how AI coding agents are incorporated into the development lifecycle, ensuring productivity gains are matched by quality and governance. Working remotely with Engineering, Product, Operations, Finance, and Compliance, you will have significant autonomy and influence over the platform’s technical direction.
- Lead the most technically complex evolutions of the platform, particularly those involving financial consistency, money movement, regulated integrations, or high-risk reversals.
- Design backend solutions based on business and technical requirements, documenting significant architectural decisions through ADRs and maintaining current reference architectures.
- Define, establish, and version integration contracts between internal services and external partners before implementation.
- Apply architecture principles and design patterns according to the specific problem, balancing scalability, reliability, maintainability, and operational risk.
- Raise the team’s technical standards through influence, architecture guidance, code reviews, reusable patterns, and focused technical mentorship.
- Help define how AI coding agents are incorporated throughout the development lifecycle, contributing to context, tooling, workflows, and practices that make AI-assisted engineering repeatable and reliable.
- Support the operation of critical financial flows in production, including monitoring, reconciliation, incident response, and regulatory obligations.
- Act as the highest technical escalation point for complex incidents, conducting root-cause analysis and converting recurring problems into permanent preventive measures.
- Identify and address technical debt that creates barriers to scalability, reliability, or operational efficiency, using explicit prioritization criteria.
- Establish and evolve testing strategies covering unit, contract, API, integration, and load testing.
- Define and maintain integration patterns, troubleshooting practices, root-cause analysis processes, and incident-prevention mechanisms.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Operations, Finance, and Compliance to ensure technical solutions meet business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Communicate technical risks, trade-offs, and architectural decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Lead technical initiatives end to end with autonomy, influencing decisions across teams and maintaining consistency in technical direction.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent higher education qualification in any relevant field.
- Strong experience working with critical transactional systems, particularly environments requiring idempotency, consistency, reconciliation, traceability, and high reliability.
- Deep understanding of software architecture and design patterns, with the ability to make architecture decisions driven by specific business and technical problems.
- Hands-on experience with AI coding agents such as Claude Code or similar tools across the full development lifecycle, including specification, implementation, testing, and code review.
- Demonstrated ability to disseminate engineering practices, tools, and standards that improve team productivity and technical quality.
- Strong experience with relational databases, including data modeling, transactions, query performance, and optimization.
- Proven experience defining and implementing testing strategies across unit, contract, API, integration, and load testing.
- Strong background in integration contracts, technical troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, incident response, and preventive engineering.
- Proven autonomy in leading technical initiatives from conception through implementation and operationalization.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical risks and trade-offs into business impacts.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities while maintaining architectural consistency and technical quality.
- Experience with Java and the Spring ecosystem, Node.js, or Go is a strong advantage.
- Knowledge of Brazilian payment infrastructure, including Pix/SPI/DICT, TED/STR, boleto, or CIP, is highly desirable.
- Experience with core banking systems, financial ledgers, or double-entry accounting is a plus.
- Experience integrating third-party systems in regulated environments, including financial institutions, processors, or regulatory ecosystems, is desirable.
- Previous experience in fintechs or regulated financial systems is an advantage.
- Familiarity with asynchronous messaging such as SQS/SNS and architectural patterns such as Anti-Corruption Layer is a plus.
- Experience with cloud-native applications, containers, microservices, and AWS is desirable.
- Practical experience with CI/CD and automated quality controls within engineering pipelines is an advantage.
- Familiarity with observability practices, including metrics, distributed tracing, and actionable alerting, is desirable.
- Experience building internal AI-powered automations and tools using agents, MCP, skills, context pipelines, or similar approaches is a strong advantage.
- Experience taking AI-enabled solutions into production within regulated environments, with attention to privacy, auditing, and sensitive-data controls, is highly desirable.
- Fully remote work model within Brazil.

- Opportunity to work on technology that directly impacts financial accessibility and credit services for millions of customers.
- Environment focused on technology, data, innovation, autonomy, and continuous improvement.
- Culture that values diversity and welcomes people across different backgrounds, identities, ages, abilities, and experiences.
